LOS ANGELES -- Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey spent the first month of the season as highly successful linemates in the minors. Nike Vapormax Wholesale . Now that theyre roommates with the Los Angeles Kings, theyre still making good things happen together. Toffoli had two goals and an assist in his third game back from the minors, and Mike Richards had a goal and two assists in the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. While Toffoli had the first three-point game of his short Kings career, Vey earned his first NHL point with an early assist in Los Angeles 10th victory in 14 games. "Its good to get the win, especially with the rivalry between the two teams the last couple of years," said Vey, who made his NHL debut Thursday. "It was an intense game. ... I think Tof and I bring a little bit of energy and excitement. Were new to the league, so we have a lot of excitement coming into the game. We just need to keep rolling." Toffoli saw playoff action during Los Angeles run to the Western Conference finals last summer, and he teamed up with Vey on the AHLs Manchester Monarchs last month after failing to make the Kings roster out of training camp. Both were recalled a week ago to fill in for injured veterans Jeff Carter and Jarret Stoll. Although the youngsters are temporary solutions to the Kings injury problems, Toffoli and Vey are making a strong case for more permanent jobs in the near future. "Were pretty good friends, so it makes things a whole lot easier," Toffoli said. "We have each other to hang out, and at the same time, all of the guys have been great helping us out and making us feel really welcome." Richards, Justin Williams and Toffoli scored in a 2:33 span midway through the second period for the Kings, chasing Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo in the process. Jonathan Quick made 25 saves, and Jordan Nolan scored an early goal on Veys pass in a game that turned out to be a showcase for the Kings two rookies. "Its exciting for them, and they bring that enthusiasm into games," said Richards, who has eight points in four games. "They have the confidence to make plays, and theyre both smart passers." Dan Hamhuis scored in the Canucks first game against Los Angeles as division rivals since 1998. Luongo stopped 14 shots before getting pulled after the Kings fourth goal midway through the second period. "I thought in the first two periods we had surges early, but we couldnt score," Vancouver coach John Tortorella said. "Its a 5-1 game and you think you got spanked, but I thought Quick made some really important saves at key times. We had some breakdowns, and its in the back of our net." The Sedin twins were held scoreless for the second straight night on the Canucks four-game trip to each of the reconfigured Pacific Divisions four U.S.-based teams. "We had a few chances in the first period, but Quick played good," Daniel Sedin said. "We didnt play terrible the first two periods, but we have to be better. We made a few mistakes and it cost us. Theyve got a very good team, for sure, and theyre well-coached. But we didnt play our best game." The Kings played without three veteran regulars due to injuries, and left wing Kyle Clifford went down with an undisclosed injury early in the game. Carter sat out his third consecutive game, while Stoll missed his second straight and defenceman Matt Greene was scratched with an undisclosed injury. After a wide-open few minutes in the first period, Nolan put the Kings ahead in a sequence that started when Hamhuis tumbled and lost the puck at Los Angeles blue line. Vey, playing his second NHL game, nimbly deked longtime Kings forward Brad Richardson on the rush before feeding Nolan for his third goal. Toffoli scored late in the period after two exceptional passes by Richards and Drew Doughty, who found the youngster with a cross-ice pass on a wobbling puck. Hamhuis scored in the second period with a long shot after a defensive scramble by the Kings. Richards answered 68 seconds later with a goal in front of Luongo, and the veteran goalies defence left him helpless again when Williams scored 1:46 after that. Eddie Lack replaced Luongo, but the Canucks again abandoned defence and gave up a gaping 2-on-1 break to Toffoli and Richards, who exchanged the puck until Toffoli scored his second goal. LOUIS - Two-thirds of the St. UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders were merely content with a lopsided victory. The Phoenix Coyotes were flat-out humiliated. With production from all four lines, the Islanders built a big lead and carried it to a 6-1 win over the Coyotes on Tuesday night. While New York coach Jack Capuano was pleased with his teams performance, he tempered his remarks and didnt heap too much praise on his club. "We got some bounces. Lets not kid ourselves," Capuano said. "The score didnt indicate the way the game was." John Tavares scored his first two goals of the season and defenceman Matt Donovan added the first of his NHL career in a rare meeting between the Islanders and Coyotes. Phoenix hadnt visited Long Island since December 2010. Peter Regin and Tavares scored in the first period for the Islanders (2-0-1), and Donovan, Tavares and Colin McDonald connected in the second against beleaguered goalie Mike Smith to turn it into a rout. Frans Nielsen earned the second of his three assists on the night when McDonald made it 5-1 with 2:36 left in the second. "You get embarrassed as a professional athlete. Its unacceptable," Coyotes captain Shane Doan said. "There has to be accountability in our room. They have a really good team that moves the puck well, and we let them do it all night." Evgeni Nabokov was the beneficiary of all the offence and made 33 saves for the win. The 38-year-old goalie has started all three games for the Islanders. Josh Bailey had a goal and two assists, and Michael Grabner had three assists for New York, which was outshot 34-28. Regin added an assist. "It was just a full-team effort," forward Kyle Okposo said. "We talked about the third period. We wanted to come out and play better and not give them anything. I thought we did a pretty good job." Martin Hanzal gave the Coyotes (1-2) a brief spark when his first of the season made it 3-1. Smith stopped only 15 shots and was replaced at the start of the third period by Thomas Greiss, who made his Phoenix debut. Bailey made it 6-1 against Greiss, off assists from Nielsen and Grabner, with 7:41 left. "Its completely unacceptable," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "We have a lot of work to do as a team. We just werent good enough." For the second straight game, the Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead and tried to protect it. They were unsuccessful in their home opener on Saturday when they allowed Columbus to get even in the third period and beat them in a shootout. Wholesale Nike Shoes China. This time, the Islanders pushed their edge to 3-0 with their second power-play goal, but the Coyotes responded 43 seconds later with Hanzals goal to cut the deficit back to two. "A two-goal lead at home is something youd love to have every night. It was good to take advantage of that," Tavares said. "We have confidence with the lead. It was nice to get another one and keep playing the way we want to play. "Our third goal was a big goal. On Saturday we didnt get the third goal." New York took control early against the Coyotes. Phoenix defenceman Zbynek Michalek turned over the puck near the blue line, and Regin calmly skated into the left circle, with his head up. He deftly snapped a shot over the shoulder of the 6-foot-4 Smith and into the left corner just 1:49 into the game. "Sometimes you have that feeling-out process at the start of the game, but Peters line did a great job of getting us into it right away," Bailey said. "Having a goal within the first two minutes really boosted the guys, and after that we seemed to respond really well." The Islanders earned the first power play with 6:24 left in the first, and the Coyotes compounded the problem on the ensuing faceoff when Antoine Vermette was whistled for delay of game when he smothered the puck in the circle. Tavares took advantage of the two-man power play when he slam-dunked a cross-crease pass from Nielsen inside the right post. Phoenix managed to kill the remainder of Vermettes penalty, but trailed 2-0 after one period despite a 7-6 edge in shots. Donovan pushed the lead to 3-0 at 11:47 of the second during a power play with a hard shot that Smith smothered. However, the puck trickled behind him and over the line. "The harder you work, the luckier you get," Capuano said. Tavares, the Islanders new captain, notched his second with 5:11 left in the period, and McDonald made it 5-1 just 2:35 later. The weather was as wild as some of the action on the pitch in Miami Gardens, with the game halted midway through the first half for 45 minutes due to a lightning storm. England struggled to create scoring chances even with a man advantage, and the pressure will grow for Ross Barkley to start in Brazil after the 20-year-old midfielder raised the tempo when he came on at half time. "If you look at the chances we had the better, but were quite frustrated," captain Steven Gerrard said. "The ref was poor, the game was interrupted, there was a big one in the first half and they were doing stupid fouls. There was no rhythm. Were frustrated but relieved at no injuries. "There were some horrific tackles for a friendly. I got caught with a bad one." Beckeles, who had been booked for a lunge on Danny Welbeck, was shown a second yellow card in the 66th minute after catching Leighton Baines face with his elbow. "The lesson is we cant play with 10, we need to be more careful," Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez said through a translator. Honduras kicks off its World Cup campaign next Sunday against France, a day after England opens against Italy. The hot and humid conditions were exactly what England came to Miami for, but not the storm that worsened during the opening 20 minutes. Before the disruption, Wayne Rooneys free kick was spilled by Noel Valladares but no England player was primed to exploit the goalkeepers shakiness. And, when Rooney set up Daniel Sturridge, the striker sttruck wide on the turn. Wholesale Red Wings Jerseys. Warning messages flashed up on stadium big screens urging fans to first leave their uncovered seats, and then for the players to go off the pitch. "We were just about to slice through them and it was a great relief for them when the rain came," England goalkeeper Joe Hart said. When they returned, Emilio Izaguirre was fortunate not to be sent off for tripping Sturridge and then kicking the striker as he was on the ground. The defender was only booked by Ricardo Salazar. "I dont understand refs seeing balls slammed into players chests," Gerrard said. "Its a clear red card." England was more threatening after the break when Rooney and captain Gerrard were replaced by the youthful legs of Barkley and Jack Wilshere. Barkley quickly unleashed a shot from outside the penalty area, and later burst forward unchallenged to feed Sturridge, who chipped wide. It was surprising that it took until the 66th for a red card to be shown, but England could not exploit its man advantage. Although Barkley was adding energy and pace with his runs, Sturridge squandered another opening when he headed wide from Glen Johnsons cross. "It was a real stop-start game, one of the most frustrating Ive been involved in for a long time," England coach Roy Hodgson said. "We had a long stoppage, I thought we dealt with it and in the second half it was attack vs. defence. "They got their men behind the ball and we didnt take our chances. We attempted to make them but this is a game I will soon forget. I will take the draw and that we got away without injuries and that we have experience against Central American opposition." ' ' '
Flames visit Preds in battle between low-scoring teams (SportsNetwork. Yeezy 500 High Slate For Sale .com) - The Calgary Flames were again involved in a game in which a team was held scoreless, only this time they came out on the winning side. For one night, continued scoring issues didnt cost the Flames and theyll aim to make it back-to-back wins on Tuesday night when they visit the Nashville Predators. Calgary went into Mondays encounter with the Carolina Hurricanes having been outscored 13-1 over a three-game slide and 26-6 over their previous eight games, a span in which it had been shut out five times while going 1-7-0. The Flames finally found a way to get around those scoring woes by keeping the Hurricanes off the board in a 2-0 win. Karri Ramo stopped all 23 shots he faced for his first NHL shutout. Ramo played 48 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2006-09 and then spent the next four seasons in Russia before the Flames took a chance on the 27- year-old Finn in the offseason. He posted 18 whitewashes for Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League. Mikael Backlund and Sean Monahan scored the goals as the Flames won despite Mike Cammalleri sitting out with a concussion suffered in Saturdays loss to Pittsburgh. "It was probably our best team effort of the season," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said. "Its a feel-good story, thats for sure. We had an answer for their pressure. We were on our toes, had great support. Guys were going short (shifts), so we had plenty of energy. We were on a mission." Monahan tied Cammalleri for the team lead in goals with 13 as he has three tallies in his past seven games for the struggling offense. The Predators themselves failed to find any offense on Sunday night versus the Minnesota Wild, falling in defeat 4-0. They were shut out for an NHL-leading seventh time this season, but for the first time since Nov. 28. Marek Mazanec made 19 saves, yielding two goals in the first period and another two in the third as the Preds fell to 1-2-1 on a five-game homestand and 3-7-4 in their past 14. "They came out with a lot of juice and got us on our heels in the first," said Nashville coach Barry Trotz. The Predators and Flames are meeting for the first time this season and Nashville has claimed five of the past seven encounters overall. Calgary has lost four straight in Nashville. Sens, Wild collide in Minnesota (SportsNetwork.com) - There is still plenty of hockey left to be played, but that doesnt mean the Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild arent keep an eye on the standings. The two clubs look to extend recent surges on Tuesday night with a meeting in Minnesota. The Senators are 5-0-1 in their last six games, climbing to within two points of the final two postseason spots in the Eastern Conference, while the Wild own a four-point lead for eighth place in the Western Conference thanks to a victory in five of their last six. Ottawa wraps a four-game road trip tonight and rebounded from an overtime loss in Colorado to beat the Nashville Predators 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday. Both Mika Zibanejad and Jason Spezza scored for the Sens in the tiebreaker, while Craig Anderson stopped both skaters he faced. Kyle Turris scored in regulation while Anderson stopped 32 shots through overtime. "You dont want to fall behind. We know were in a lump of a group of teams, but with the games-in-hand and the not-games-in-hand I think its too early to be looking at where you sit," said Spezza. Anderson has not lost in regulation since Dec. 19, going 6-0-2 since. However, he has allowed three goals or more in five of those eight games. Minnesota, meanwhile, has found success despite not having forwards Zach Parise (lower body) and Mikko Koivu (ankle surgery) as well as goaltender Josh Harding (illness) out of the lineup. The Wild also rebounded from a loss to Colorado, besting the hosting Nashville Predators 4-0 on Sunday. Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves for his first career NHL shutout, while Dany Heatley, Jason Zucker, Matt Cooke and Marco Scandella all had goals. Charlie Coyle, skating on a line with Heatley and Zucker, notched a pair of assists. "I think its also the first time weve had a couple of guys weve played steady together for more than a game or two," Heatley said. "Like I said, that chemistrys a big deal and its going good right now." Kuemper only had to make five saves in the opening period, but turned aside nine in each of the final two frames to finish off the shutout. He will get the call in net again tonight as he faces the Senators for the first time. Ottawa is 8-3-0 with a tie all-time versus Minnesota and had won six straight in the series before a 4-3 home loss on Nov. 20. Koivu had the winner, Heatley finished with a goal and an assist and Harding made 34 saves. Turris, Zibanejad and Milan Michalek scored for the Senators, while Anderson made 21 saves. Sens backup Robin Lehner is slated to get the start tonight and has never faced the Wild. He has given up five goals in each of his last two starts overall, the most recent on Dec. 27. Ottawa has won three straight on the road in this series and is 4-1-0 with a tie all-time in Minnesota. The Senators announced on Monday that general manager Bryan Murray signed a two-year contract extension and was also named the president of hockey operations. Upon the conclusion of the extension in 2016, Murray will stay on with the team in an advisory role. The 71-year-old Murray has been with the franchise since June 2004 when he was named the teams head coach, then took over the general managers duties on June 18, 2007. Oilers look to halt struggles against Stars (SportsNetwork.com) - A stunning collapse cost the Dallas Stars a chance at snapping their five-game losing streak last time out. The Edmonton Oilers couldnt capitalize on a shocking goal to beat one of the NHLs top teams. The Stars and Oilers both aim to halt their recent struggles on Tuesday night with a meeting in Dallas. The Oilers visited the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday and lost a 5-3 decision despite a gift goal in the second period. During a delayed penalty call, Blackhawks goaltender Antti Raanta skated off for an extra attacker as Patrick Kane passed the puck to the point in the Oilers zone. However, there was not Blackhawk there and the puck traveled all the way into the Chicago net, with Boyd Gordon getting credited with a goal despite not even being on the ice. That strange tally tied the game at 2-2 with 8:31 left in the second period, but Chicagos Marian Hossa scored during the 5-on-3 power play just 29 seconds later and Jonathan Toews added another Blackhawks goal before the end of the period. Ales Hemsky had one goal and an assist for the Oilers, while Devan Dubnyk was beaten five times on 41 shots. "We made it pretty easy on them. Against a team like that, theyre going to make you pay," said Edmonton forward Taylor Hall, who scored his 18th goal of the season to make it 4-3 in the third period before Chicago again answered. The Stars and Oilers have split two meetings this season, with each club winning on the road. Dallas has won seven of nine and 12 of the last 15 meetings overall. Edmonton has won back-to-back road games in this series, but has still lost 10 of its last 13 in Dallas. Just minutes away from a victory over the New York Islanders on Sunday, the Stars instead watched as the Isles scored three times over the games final 4:16 to hand Dallas a 4-2 setback. It was the Stars sixth defeat in a row, all in regulation. Ray Whitney and Sergei Gonchar scored in the first period to stake Dallas to a 2-0 lead and Dan Ellis made 27 saves. "When youre struggling as a group, instead of finding ways to win you find ways to lose, and thats kind of where were at right now," said Whitney. The Stars have lost six in a row in regulation for the first time since Dec. 5-15, 1995 and have fallen eight points back of the eighth spot in the Western Conference. Dallas will now try to avoid losing seven straight for the first time since an 0-5-2 rut from March 17-30, 2009 and will do so against an Edmonton club that is 2-4-2 in its last eight games. Ilya Bryzgalov will start tonight for the Oilers and is 13-8-2 with a 2.26 goals against average in 29 games (26 starts) versus the Stars. He made 28 saves in a 3-2 shootout win in Dallas on Dec. 1. Kari Lehtonen is likely to start for the Stars and owns a 10-3-1 lifetime mark versus the Oilers with a 2.06 GAA. He shut the club out for the first time in his career with a 3-0 road decision on Nov. 13, then stopped 30 saves in the loss to Bryzgalov. Former Oilers captain and current Stars forward Shawn Horcoff faces his old club for the third time. He totaled 162 goals, 285 assists and 447 points in 796 games with Edmonton to begin his career and has no points in the two meetings this season. Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Zebra 2020 . Whats Your Tims Order? We asked the members of the TSN Hockey team arguably the most Canadian question ever: Whats your standard order at Tim Hortons? They shared their responses: Gino Reda My order: For well over a decade through my oldest boys hockey career, I was all about the Cinnamon Raisin toasted bagel with light cream cheese and a medium coffee with milk. Standing by the glass in the offensive zone, using the dasher board to hold my Timmys, watching my kid grow up on the ice. Now eight years later, with my oldest having moved away, Im back in the same spot at the rink, watching my little guy begin the same journey. Im a little older, so its a Greek yogurt instead of the bagel, but Im still milk no sugar, and still loving the view at the glass. Favourite donut: Chocolate Glazed Aaron Ward My order: Large Double Double with two sweeteners. I order it most often in the International Departures terminal at Pearson Airport when Im purchasing my 144 premade packets of Tim Hortons coffee to take home to North Carolina. The ladies at Tim Hortons know me as that guy who buys all that coffee. Favourite donut: Apple Fritter (but my real go-to is 10 Sour Cream Glazed and 10 Apple Fritter Timbits) Bob McKenzie My order: Ordering Tim Hortons is an art form for me. Ninety-nine per cent of the time Im in the car. In the old days, it was a 12 Grain bagel, double toasted with butter, a yogurt, and a large steeped tea with milk. Then it evolved to oatmeal with fruit, a yogurt, and a large steeped tea with milk. The latest incarnation of my order is the egg white breakfast sandwich with turkey sausage, double toast the English muffin and add a little ketchup, with a vanilla Greek yogurt, and a large steeped tea with milk. As you can see, the only constant is the large steeped tea with milk. Favourite donut: Apple Fritter Darren Dreger My order: Medium, regular. Always. Seldom stray. I usually order it en route to my kids hockey games or on my way to work. My weekend ritual is the Turkey Sausage Breakfast Sandwich. I always go to the same locations a all three are owned and operated by my good friend Matt Hanley, who has been an excellent supporter of minor hockey in the Whitby area. Favourite donut: Sour Cream Glazed Gord Miller My order: Cinnamon Raisin bagel, lightly toasted, lightly buttered. With an orange juice. Favourite donut: Oatmeal Raisin cookies James Duthie My order: Two Boston Creams with a side of Boston Cream Favourite donut: Boston Cream Jamie McLennan My order: I love the grilled cheese with chili on the side. I order that during winter when Im coming to the studio to watch games and do a show. Thankfully, the Tims location not far from the TSN studio is always there when I need it. Favourite donut: Sour Cream Glazed (with a hot chocolate) Ray Ferraro My order: First of all, Tims Dark Roast. Two cream, one sugar. Follow that with a 12 Grain bagel, double toasted, with light strawberry cream cheese. Favourite donut: Vanilla Dip (with sprinkles) ' ' '
TORONTO - For months weve been hearing all about their impossibly difficult early-season schedule. Vapormax Plus Italia . Through 34 contests, the Raptors have had the most difficult slate of games in the Eastern Conference, according to Basketball-Reference.com. Theyve played 19 on the road and 16 against winning teams, both tied for most in the East. They have seen both conference finalists, Miami and Indiana three times. In spite of it all, Toronto is right where Dwane Casey had cautiously hoped they would be; at sea level. "These five games are a crucial stretch of games here at home for us," Casey said ahead of Wednesdays 112-91 victory over the Pistons, a win that got Toronto back to the .500 mark. "Its a very crucial time." Following another daunting road trip, capped off by disappointing but expected losses to the Heat and Pacers, the Raptors schedule finally begins to ease up. Wednesdays meeting with Detroit was the first of four straight against losing teams. Four of their next five are at home and only two of the remaining 12 contests in January come against opponents that went into Wednesdays games with winning records. Casey had spoken about using recent tests against the leagues best as a measuring stick for his emerging team but these upcoming few weeks may tell him more about where they stack up in the Eastern Conference. They must continue to win the games they should. Taking care of the Pistons, one of the Easts talented disasters, was a promising first step. Toronto coughed up an 11-point second-quarter lead in what turned out to be an ugly opening half for both teams. DeMar DeRozan and Amir Johnson combined to shoot 0-of-16 while the team was outscored by 16 points in the paint, outworked by another physical frontline. Lucky to be down only four at the break, the Raptors adjusted going into the second half, where they outscored the visitors 62-37. "We pretty much said, this is a must-win game," Johnson maintained. "We have to go out and take it and we did that." Although they shot just 41 per cent from the field, the Raptors knocked down 11 three-pointers, including five from Terrence Ross, who had 17 points on the night. Toronto improved to 8-2 on the season when connecting on 10 or more three-balls. Kyle Lowry led the team in scoring with 21 to go along with nine assists, Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas both added double-doubles and DeRozan finished with 19 points, 13 of which came from the free throw line. "We knew it was going to be a grind it out game and thats something were learning to do," Casey added. "Theres no pretty games in the NBA, its a mans league," he continued. "To win in this league, to win in the Eastern Conference especially - I found out in my three years in it - its a mans [conference]. Its a hit, knockdown, drag out [conference] and the strong survive. Were learning how to do that." The Raptors were a different team coming out of the locker room after intermission. They bested the Pistons in the paint - Detroit leads the league in that category - out-rebounded them and imposed their will on a struggling team that has now lost six in a row. After eight lead changes in the first half, there was just one in the second and it was all the Raptors needed to seize control. "Theyre must-win games," Johnson said. "Theyre all home and we need to win those games just to stay at the top of our division. Theyre must-win games and weve got to come out and play hard." With Brooklyn on deck, followed by games against the woeful Bucks and Celtics, the Raptors have to continue to do just that. Theyve got to seize this opportunity. Although Toronto is just 1-5 facing the Pacers and Heat this season, theyre 11-5 against the rest of the conference. Sitting just one game out of third place in the East - after the Horford-less Hawks upset Indiana on Wednesday - the Raptors are now in a position to validate their recent success. They can separate themselves from the heap of mediocrity theyll be facing throughout the duration of the month of they will end up blending in with them. "Theres no reason for any of us to be content or satisfied or be able to be happy about [where we are]," Casey preached. "Weve got to play like a hungry team. Weve got to continue to grow, weve got to continue to have the underdog attitude because thats where we are. " "Were nowhere near an established program. Im not kidding myself, I know what an established program is all about and were not there yet. We have a lot of growth to do with our core group of guys." There have been three or four that have been absolutely disappointing and theyve obviously put their tour places in jeopardy, he said.We expect those players to go back to their clubs and play like international players and we want them to have good habits - a couple of them havent done that and are in a bit of strife at the moment.Ive spoken to some of them directly and some of them indirectly and theyll understand the situation. Juan Mata admits this season has been a frustrating one for Manchester United but he is hopeful a late surge can see them finish on a high. LeSean McCoy Super Bowl Jersey . United welcome Premier League leaders Leicester to Old Trafford on Super Sunday and will seek to prevent the high-flying Foxes from gaining the three points they need to win the title.Louis van Gaals men have not been a factor in the title race since a disastrous dip in form in December and head into Sundays encounter trailing their opponents by 17 points. The 20-time league champions currently lie fifth, five points behind Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for the top four, and face the very real prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson departed. It has not been an easy season, Mata admitted, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.Despite some of the pessimism currently surrounding the Red Devils, there is still plenty at stake in their remaining five games this season.Anthony Martials dramatic injury-time winner against Everton last Saturday at Wembley secured Uniteds place against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final - a competition they have not won since 2004.There is also hope in the league as - despite the five-point gap - United have a game in hand over Arsenal and City, with the Gunners still to visit the Etihad Stadium on May 8. It was my first season in England and we won two trophies - the FA Cup and the Champions League - but the FA Cup was very special because it was the first one.We played against Tottenham in the semi-final and Liverpool in the final and I have great memories from the games and from the first trophy I lifted in England.Hopefully I can do it again. (SportsNetwork. Tony Gonzalez Jersey .com) - The Chicago Blackhawks take aim at their longest winning streak of the season on Sunday when they host the Calgary Flames in a battle at the United Center. Chicago has scored five goals or more in winning each of its past three games to match another three-game run this season from Oct. 11-15. The defending Stanley Cup champions also have suffered just one regulation loss over their last 11 contests, going 8-1-2 during that stretch. After pounding the Jets by a 5-1 score in Winnipeg on Saturday, the Blackhawks return home to face a Flames team they have dominated in recent years. Calgary has lost 10 straight in Chicago and hasnt earned a victory in the Windy City since beating the Blackhawks, 4-2, on March 16, 2008. Chicago won all three encounters against the Flames last season and has claimed four of five and six of eight overall in this series. The Blackhawks gave up a goal just over five minutes into Saturdays game at Winnipeg, but then scored five unanswered goals, including three in a 4:55 span early in the second period to chase Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Corey Crawford made 26 saves to get the win, riding an offensive barrage to a his third win in as many starts. Nick Leddy and Brandon Bollig each tallied once and picked up an assist for Chicago. "We had a good start to that second period, first period we were lucky to be even there, (Crawford) kept us in the game," said Chicago coach Joel Quenneville. Crawford is 3-2-0 with a 2.81 goals against average in five career games against the Flames. Chicagos backup goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, who has not looked sharp in his three outings this season, is 23-13-2 with two ties and a 2.50 GAA in his career against Calgary. The Blackhawks are playing two straight and four of their next five games on home ice. They are 5-1-2 as the host this season. Calgary enters Sunday on a two-game slide and the club has lost six of eight since beginning the season 3-0-2. The Flames were last in action on Friday, when they lost a 4-3 decision against the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Calgary managed to tie the score with a pair of goals in the second. However, Joakim Andersson broke the tie for Detroit just 85 seconds into the final stanza and Justin Abdelkader followed with the game-winner. Curtis Glencross, Sean Monahan and Chris Butler all scored for the Flames, who have dropped four of five. Joey MacDonald gave up all four goals on 22 shots in the loss. Glencross scored with 10 seconds left in regulation to account for the one- goal margin. "I thought that we didnt skate like the way we could," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "The way that the Wings play, they kind of slow down the play and I felt that we got caught a bit especially with scoring two goals, they kind of put us back on our heels a little bit. I just felt that we didnt have our usual jump." Calgary, which is 2-4-1 as the visiting team this season, is kicking off a four-game road trip on Sunday. This week the 2013/14 Premier League season comes to a close. Ryan Helsley . Here at TSN.ca we will take a look back at the season by bringing together a panel of experts to help pick the best 50 players of the season. This list is based purely on their performances this season. It is not a list of who we think the best 50 players in the league are. Fourteen members were asked to take part (panel below) and submit their top 20 players of the season. Their list was then placed into a scoring system and then the totals determined the overall positions in the top 50. Each day this week we will release the list in 10s. The sport is very much about opinions, so please feel free to write your own list in the comments below. You can read part one of the list here. You can read part two of the list here. You can read part three of the list here. You can read part four of the list here. Here is how the Top 20 were scored 1st place 30pts; 2nd place 25; 3rd place 22; 4th place 20; 5th place 18; 6th place 17; 7th place 15; 8th place 14; 9th place 13; 10th place 12; 11th place 10; 12th place 9; 13th place 8; 14th place 7; 15th place 6; 16th place 5; 17th place 4; 18th place 3; 19th place 2; 20th place 1. Seamus Coleman (Everton) The eighth member of Evertons team to make the top 50 and the best of them all, according to the panel, as well as a recent award ceremony at Goodison Park. The right back had a superb season for Roberto Martinez, continuing the development that began under David Moyes. Six goals from defence certainly helps players get attention, but the Irishman was more than just a goal-scorer, defending brilliantly and making intelligent runs to create key overlaps in wide areas. Named on nine ballots, 125 pts. 9. Sergio Aguero (Man City) The Argentine has now played three full seasons in the Premier League and, probably, the league has yet to see him at his true best. The 25-year-old is a genuine world class star, arguably one of the finest talents to grace English football in years, but his best season in the Premier League remains his first, as he has only started 41 games over the last two years. Injuries limited him to starting only 19 games this campaign, but his 17 goals show what he could do if he were fit. Rumors continue to swirl that he may go to a Spanish giant this summer, but the Premier League and Manchester City will be desperate for a healthy Kun to play over 30 league games next season. If he does, he could be number one this time next year. Named on 10 ballots, 139 pts. 8. Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) Another player whose ranking would be much higher if injuries didnt take away a large chunk of his season. The early candidate for player of the season, Ramsey was a magician at the heart of the Gunners midfield, starting 17 of the clubs first 18 league games and scoring eight goals. Arsenal averaged 2.16 points per game during that stretch, however, the Welshman started just two of the last 21 league games and Arsenals points per game average dipped to 1.7. Only 23, Arsenal fans are excited at the prospect of a healthy full season for Ramsey to play alongside Mesut Ozil next year. Named on 11 ballots, 156 pts. 7. Adam Lallana (Southampton) Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now Adam Lallana. The noted Southampton academy certainly has produced some excellent youngsters in recent years, but none of them has made Saints fans smile as much as Lallana. Now 25, Southampton has nurtured the midfielder into an English international and the key, central, play-making cog in their system. Lallana doesnt have the pace of any of those other graduates, but he is an excellent distributor who demands the ball in tight quarters and doesnt spend too much time on it, adhering more to the continental model than the English game. Comfortable playing wide, when asked, his lateral movement in those areas helped his game and the clubs attack. Named on 11 ballots, 164 pts. 6. David Silva (Man City) If the Premier League has been denied of seeing the true, consistent brilliance of Aguero, Man City have certainly made up for it with David Silvas displays each week. No player in the league has more elegance than the Spanish wizard who is the driver behind the tempo and movement of Citys passing moves. Silva, quite simply, has made City better, showing them how to pass and move, create angles and drift across the field to bring in attacking full backs to provide width. All of his skills ensured he absolutely dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford and then carried City on his back during their comeback at Anfield in the second half. If he scored more goals, you could be looking at the real player of the season, but it is not as if City needs more goalscorers. Named on 13 ballots, 213 pts. 5. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) The Liverpool skipper has one act left in the drama that has been the 2013/14 season. Cruelly, if Man City win the league on Sunday, the image for many, of his campaign will be the slip in the middle of Anfield against Chelsea. What shouldnt be forgotten, however, is how he adapted to a deeper role, making many sensational passes from deep areas. There were far too many to name, but the one to Daniel Sturridge at Fulham with the outside of his foot was sensational, as was the one to Luis Suarez that helped win them a penalty at West Ham. Gerrard was brilliant from set-pieces and the spot too, scoring crucial goals to build the momentum late in the season, including ones at Old Trafford and the winner in the final minute at Fulham. Named on all 14 ballots, and as high as third by three members, 234 pts. 4. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) There are many faces at Anfield standing for something. Sturridge, signed in January of 2013, is the face of the Rodgers Revolution, one that really kicked into high gear once Chelsea accepted 12 million pounds for the forward. The 24-year-old is the only Englishman, other than Wayne Rooney, to score 20 PL goals in a season since 2010 and one of his best came back in August against Aston Villa that showed his all-around qualities, drifting out to the wing before picking his moment to run into the box. He then showed tremendous ball control, dancing around the defenders before looping the ball over Brad Guzan in the Villa goal. It was an outstanding goal helped by teammates who didnt touch the ball and one that rightfully got his manager off his seat to applaud. Rodgers was full of praise, afterwards, for his striker and didnt stop short at a bold prediction: "I think he can be one of the top scorers in the league this year." He was right. Named on all 14 ballots, and second on two, 265 pts. 3. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) The Belgian ends the season in hot water with his boss, dropped against Norwich, after he called out Jose Mourinhos style in the Champions League semi-final loss, but the truth is Hazards brilliance arrived at Stamford Bridge much earlier than the talent needed to assemble around him. He is far from the finished article, occasionally losing concentration defensively on his flank, not taking over games as his talent should dictate, instead waiting for the conditions of the game to allow him to get involved, rather than vice-versa. However, Chelsea need Hazard as much as he needs them and it will be interesting to see how Mourinho goes about massaging his ego over the next few months. Without any good strikers this season, the creativity for Chelsea fell on the shoulders of the trio in behind them and Hazard is far better than the rest in that position, even though Oscar and Willian have showed great promise. Named on 13 ballots, and second on two, 266 pts. 2. Yaya Toure (Man City) There is no footballer in the world that is like the Ivorian. That doesnt make him the best, but it does mean it is extra special to watch the power and dominance he exudes from the midfield position. There are few better sights in the league than his surging runs from deep, gliding past terrified defenders. The former Barcelona man has been playing at a world class level for a number of seasons now, but elevated his level this season, becoming just the second central midfielder (Frank Lampard was the other) to score 20 Premier League goals in a season. If he plays at this level for a couple of more years, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane will have some serious competition for a spot in the all-time Premier League midfield. Named on all ballots, and first overall on two, 315 pts. 1. Luis Suarez (Liverpool) - Like many geniuses, there are many sides of Suarez, who is truly the polarizing superstar the Premier League desires. Some love to hate him, others hate to love him, but the man who started the season suspended for biting an opponent, ends it as the best player in the league. There are many responsible for the remarkable rise of Liverpool, from seventh in the table to serious Premier League contenders in less than a year, but it is hard to argue that the main reason for their success is the brilliance of the Uruguayan. The 27-year-old can score all different kind of goals, is a lethal finisher and gives defenders nightmares with all sorts of different tricks. He spent all of last summer trying to move to a contender, but by December signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool. The Reds may turn out to win nothing this season, after all, but their biggest scalp may well be proving to Suarez that they are legitimate, perennial contenders for the title. Named on all ballots, first overall by 12 of the 14 members, 405 pts. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Nobody had beaten the Anaheim Ducks at home all season long, and they had another late lead until Jaromir Jagr got the New Jersey Devils to overtime. From there, the Ducks beat themselves. Jagr scored the tying goal with 1:01 left in regulation, and the Devils ended Anaheims eight-game home winning streak with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night. Travis Zajac got credit for the winning goal at 1:58 of overtime, but the Ducks put it in their own net -- a fitting finish to what coach Bruce Boudreau saw as a tentative, reactionary effort. The Devils felt they got the reward they deserved for a gritty finish in the opener of a three-game California trip. "We knew we had to play better to give ourselves a chance, so we had to come out strong in the third period," Zajac said. "We started to win some forecheck battles and stuck with it right to the end. We got rewarded late in the game on Jagrs goal. It was kind of a lucky one there." After Jagr converted Patrik Elias pass from behind the net, with Martin Brodeur pulled for an extra attacker, New Jersey got even more luck on the winner. Ben Lovejoy hit teammate Corey Perry with the puck while attempting to clear the crease, and it caromed past Jonas Hiller to end the longest season-opening home winning streak in Anaheim history. "Thats obviously an incredibly unfortunate ending," Lovejoy said. "Thats a game we need. Were an incredibly desperate team, even though were still all right in the standings." With four wins in five games capped by this impressive comeback, the Devils are starting to feel better about their 8-8-5 spot in the standings. Moments after Brodeur made an exceptional save on Mathieu Perreaults attempt at an overtime goal, the Devils were rewarded with a gift from Lovejoy and Perry. "It was nice to pull it off because we worked very hard and we battled," said Brodeur, who stopped 22 shots. "When you win, you always look at these kinds of saves. Sometimes the games are ugly, and if you make one save like that, it makes the difference." Elias had three assists, and Marek Zidlicky and Eric Gelinas scored power-play goals in the first period after an incorrect high-sticking double minor call against Teemu Selanne. "I think the schedule worked to our advantage tonight," said Jagr, who scored his 689th NHL goal. "They had tto travel last night, and we had one extra day of rest here. Vada Pinson. Maybe in the third period it showed. But theyre one of the best teams in the league -- maybe the best team -- so thats a huge two points for us." Ryan Getzlaf scored the tiebreaking power-play goal, and Nick Bonino had a goal and an assist for the NHL-leading Ducks, who have lost five straight. Anaheim was the leagues only remaining unbeaten home team, but the Ducks are in a skid after playing a league-high 24 games this season. Matt Beleskey also scored for the Ducks, still on top of the overall NHL standings despite going 0-3-2 in their last five. Hiller made 21 saves in just his second start in seven games. Boudreau bemoaned his clubs soft third-period effort, a creeping problem in recent days. "Thats all I talked about (in) the previous two games," Boudreau said. "We played not to lose in the third period. You cant play the game in your own zone and expect to win. ... I dont even call it a mistake (on the final goal). It was an accident. Thats the way the game was going. We missed two open nets. You knew something bad was going to happen." Dustin Penner had two assists for the Ducks, who stumbled home to friendly Honda Center after a winless four-game East Coast road trip. Anaheim also lost defenceman Francois Beauchemin in the second period to an upper-body injury. "We need to respond to this," Lovejoy said. "Were not playing great hockey right now. We want to be an elite team in this league, and were not playing like it." Until the big finish, New Jersey got all of its offence on a break from a blown call. Devils defenceman Andy Greene was left with a bloody mouth after a high-stick to the face, and Selanne was whistled for a double minor -- but a video replay clearly showed Zidlicky hit his teammate in the face while tussling with Perreault. Selannes stick was on the ice. Bonino tied it with his career-best sixth goal, and Getzlaf put the Ducks ahead with a vicious slap shot for the 12th goal of his stellar season. NOTES: After the game, Anaheim hired former Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini as a part-time pro scout. ... The NHLs competition committee recommended video review of all high-sticking double minor penalties last spring, but the league rejected the idea in September. ... Vickers said Thursday he is off blood thinners and plans to run the entire Sprint Cup schedule this season, beginning with next months Daytona 500. Vickers still must be medically cleared by NASCAR before the race. The 30-year-old Vickers missed the final five races last season after doctors discovered a blood clot in his right calf in October. He also missed the final 25 races of 2010 because of blood clots and heart surgery. Aarons will be his full-time sponsor for the No. 55 Toyota car for the season. "Im ready," Vickers said. "Ive never been more excited to get back in a car." Vickers has run 22 races with Michael Waltrip Racing and has 10 top-10 finishes. He won last July at New Hampshire, snapping a 75-race winless streak. "Its been tough, but I look back at the whole experience and Im thankful for it," Vickers said. "Certainly there were a lot of moments when I wasnt sure if there was going to be a next time for anything. Once that was behind us it was, Will I ever be back in a Sprint Cup car again?" "But its a very low percentage if unprovoked. There is a big distinction between provoked and unprovoked when it comes to clotting." Vickers said the most recent clotting incident came after he had his foot immobilized for a month in a protective boot. "If I were to break my leg and go into a cast, my odds would increase a lot," he said. Vickers is focused on Daytona, where he hasnt raced since 2011. In 14 Sprint Cup races at Daytona, Vickers best career finish is seventh. "Its been a long time," Vickers said. "To get back down there is always special. Im curious to see if that energy and excitement and that love is going to feel the same this year as it did the first time I went to Daytona. I have a feeling it will, especially having gone through as much as I did to get back there." ' ' '
SAN JOSE, Calif. Johnny Robinson Jersey . - Captain Joe Thornton set the tone by dishing out hits almost every chance he got. The rest of his San Jose teammates followed his lead as the Sharks wanted to send a message to the Los Angeles Kings in case these California rivals meet again with much more on the line in a few weeks. Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture scored second-period goals and the Sharks clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs by beating the Kings 2-1 on Thursday night in a possible playoff preview. "I wanted to hit something tonight, thats all. That was the game plan," Thornton said. "Were starting to ramp up our game a little bit. That was just the case tonight. We might see these guys in 12 days or so, so just play hard and see what happens." Thornton matched his career-high with six hits and also nearly got into a fight with Slava Voynov in the second period as part of a physical game between two teams that have serious animosity toward each other. San Jose had a franchise-record 52 hits in all, including 10 by Tommy Wingels, as the Sharks didnt back down a bit against the powerful Kings. "I liked fact that we stood our ground and battled hard," coach Todd McLellan said. "The physical battles, theyre known to win a lot of those. We were in them for the most part." Antti Niemi made 26 saves and the Sharks overcame a first-period deficit to move within a point of Anaheim for first place in the Pacific Division. The Ducks still have two games in hand and the inside track on the top spot. Jordan Nolan scored the lone goal for the Kings, who had their eight-game road losing streak snapped by their first loss away from home since Jan. 28 in Phoenix. Martin Jones made 19 saves as starter Jonathan Quick got rest a night after shutting out the Coyotes to clinch a playoff berth. The Kings are locked into third place in the division after the loss and will play the Sharks in the first round unless San Jose passes Anaheim in the standings. "We play similar styles, its in-your-face hockey and if we do play them in playoffs it would be fun to watch," Nolan said. Of more immediate concern was an upper-body injury that knocked star defenceman Drew Doughty out midway through the first period. Doughty appeared to hurt his left shoulder while checking Tyler Kennedy. There was no word on the extent of Doughtys injury. "Anytime you lose a D-man especially one of his calibre its a big hole," defenceman Jake Muzzin said. "I thought we did well trying to replace him." These teams have met in two of the past three postseasons with San Jose winning a first-round series in six games in 2011 and Los Angeles winning a seven-game, second-round series last spring. The home team has won 16 of the past 17 games in this series, including all seven in last years playoffs. The Kings were the only road team to break through in that stretch with a 1-0 win on Jan. 27. The Sharks took over the play in the second period, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead. The first goal came just 4 seconds after Kings forward Dustin Brown was sent off for roughing Andrew Desjardins. Thornton won the ensuing faceoff from Jarret Stoll and the puck got back to the point to Brent Burns, whose shot deflected off Pavelski to tie the game. San Jose went ahead a few minutes later when Jones couldnt control a shot by Tommy Wingels and Couture scored his 21st goal on a wraparound. "Thats probably the best weve played in a while, the most physical weve played in a while," Couture said. "Theyre a good team over there, but I felt tonight we were more physical. We played pretty well." The Kings threatened but couldnt tie it in the third as Niemi stopped Anze Kopitar in the final minute to seal it. The Kings got on top early on a double deflection as Alec Martinezs point shot deflected off Jaret Stoll and then Nolan before it beat Niemi less than 4 minutes into the game. The Sharks didnt test Jones much early as most of the opening period was played in San Joses end. Their best chance came when Marty Havlat shot wide on a breakaway. NEWARK, N. Curtis McClinton Jersey .J. - The New Jersey Devils know the odds are against them as they chase a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Their latest win preserved their chances. Ryan Carter scored the tiebreaking goal with 4:54 remaining to lift the Devils to a 2-1 win over the Capitals on Friday night. New Jersey jumped ahead of Washington into 10th place in the East, just three points behind eighth-place Columbus with five games remaining. "We gave ourselves a chance to stay relevant," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. Tuomo Ruutu also scored for New Jersey, and Cory Schneider made 24 saves. "It was the best win so far this season," the Devils Jaromir Jagr said. "We showed up as a team." Alex Ovechkin scored for Washington, which lost its fifth straight. Jaroslav Halak stopped 29 shots. On the game-winner, Carter was sprung by a leading pass from Marek Zidlicky, and he snapped a shot that eluded Halak. "I saw the shot and it went in," Halak said. "Simple (as that). I dont make the save. To me it was an easy shot and I let it in." The Capitals lamented missed opportunities in the first 40 minutes that prevented them from taking control of a game that was up for grabs. "Its obviously difficult to swallow the loss. We played a good game, had a lot of Grade A chances (and) their goalie made some great saves," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "Two goals against on the road should be enough. We just (didnt) score enough." Ovechkin opened the scoring 10:12 into the game with his 49th of the season. The sequence began with New Jersey defenceman Mark Fayne committing a defensive zone turnover. Nicklas Backstrom found the loose puck and moved it to Mikhail Grabovski, who passed it to Ovechkin for the quick shot. The goal was Ovechkins first even-strength point since Feb. 27. That was all the Capitals would get, as Schneider turned them away at every opportunity. Schneider stuffed Jason Chimera on a breakaway with 1:28 left in the first, and kept the puck out of the net during a second period flurry in which Julien Brouillette and Backstrom had chances from along the crease. "He made a good stop," Chimera said. "If that goes in, its a 2-0 game." Oates added: "You have to give their goalie credit, he made some big saves. We had breakaways, we hit posts, we had a lot of great chances." Ruutu drew New Jersey even with 7:39 left in the second with a redirection of Eric Gelinas point shot. The goal was Ruutus eighth of the season, and his third with the Devils following the March 5 trade from the Carolina Hurricanes. Both the New Jersey and Washington power-play units were ineffective. The Devils were 0 for 5 and Washington finished 0 for 3. New Jersey lost Patrik Elias in the first period after he was ridden into a stanchion by Washingtons Tom Wilson. Elias, New Jerseys second-leading scorer with 51 points, skated seven shifts totalling 3:36. "Youre short guys and everyone is going and everyone is contributing and its a good way to win and hopefully we can build off of that," Travis Zajac said. Both teams have five games remaining this season, and essentially need to win out and hope Eastern Conference wild card-leading Detroit and Columbus and ninth-place Toronto lose their remaining games. The Red Wings lead the Devils by six points, and the Blue Jackets are three ahead of New Jersey. Washington is another point back. "Yeah, definitely," Backstrom said when asked if he thought Washington had to run the table in order to qualify for the playoffs. "I think the best chance for us is to win every game." Louisville (23-4, 12-2 American Athletic Conference) started the winning streak after a last-second 69-66 home loss to the Bearcats (24-4, 13-2) three weeks ago. Cincinnati fought back from a 10-point second-half deficit to take a 55-52 lead with 90 seconds remaining in the game. Freshman Troy Caupain made two free throws with 12 seconds left to give the Bearcats a 57-56 lead. Terry Rozier passed the ball to Smith, catching the notoriously stingy Cincinnati defence off guard and he made the jumper. The Cardinals tipped the inbounds pass, giving Cincinnati no opportunity to get off a shot before the buzzer sounded. Montrezl Harrell, who was just 5 of 12 from the free throw line, led the Cardinals with 21 points, Rozier had 11 and Smith finished with 10 on 3-of-10 shooting. Sean Kilpatrick had 28 points for the Bearcats, who had won 19 straight at home. Feeding off of the intensity of a sellout crowd at Fifth Third Arena, the game started fast-paced and physical in a matchup of two of the nations best defences. Louisville held Cincinnati to 6-of-31 shooting and the Bearcats limited Louisville to 8-of-30 shooting from the field in the first half. Louisville had held seven of its last 10 opponents to under 40 per cent shooting from the field, and continued that trend Saturday. Unlike in the teams first matchup in January, when Cincinnati shot 48.9 per cent, the Bearcats started 3 of 27 from the field. Louisville swarmed the Bearcats, intercepting passes, swatting away shots and forcing Cincinnati to rush itss offence. Deon Yelder Jersey. Cincinnati missed 13 straight field goal attempts over an 8:25 scoring drought as the Cardinals built a 21-9 lead. Louisville found success by driving inside, outscoring the Bearcats 14-2 in the paint before halftime. But down 12 points with 4:41 left in the half, the Bearcats outscored Louisville 8-1 the rest of the way before halftime, capping the half with a jumper by Caupain to make it 22-19. On the Bearcats first possession of the second half, GeLawn Guyn hit a 3-pointer to tie the game. The Bearcats, fourth in the nation in scoring defence (57.4 points per game), held Louisville to just 22 first-half points. The output was the Cardinals second-lowest in a half this season, slightly higher than the 20 points they had in the first half of the teams first meeting on Jan. 30. Louisville found its touch in the second half, shooting 14 of 25 from the field and again building a 10-point lead. Cincinnatis shooting woes -- with the exception of Kilpatrick -- continued. Kilpatrick made 15 straight Cincinnati field goals in the second half, taking more than three times the number of field goal attempts (26) as any of his teammates. But Kilpatricks scoring was all Cincinnati needed. The Bearcats went ahead 52-51 on a free throw by Kilpatrick with 2:20 left. Louisvilles Luke Hancock finished with two points, fouling out with 1:40 left and his team down 52-51. Mangok Mathiang fouled out with 2:20 left and finished with four points. Kilpatrick entered the game needing 10 points to reach 2,000 for his career. Early in the second half, he reached the milestone on a drive to the basket, joining Oscar Robertson as the only players in school history to score over 2,000 points. ' ' '
SAN ANTONIO - LeBron James should be used to the NBA Finals by now. Hurricanes Jerseys 2021 . After five trips to the championship series in eight years, it would make sense if he had a been-there, done-that attitude when stepping onto the sports biggest stage. He doesnt. On Wednesday James took a seat inside a makeshift interview area, sneaked a quick glance at the NBA Finals signage that was off to his left side, and beamed like a kid in a candy store. Just a couple years removed from being ripped for not delivering in the moments that decide championships, James seems more comfortable in these surroundings than ever. "Im blessed, man," James said. "Thats all I can say." And then, without stopping, the four-time MVP said much more. "This is my fifth appearance in a finals," he continued. "Im blessed. I was a kid who watched so many finals appearances and, you know, watched Michael Jordan and watched Shaq and Kobe ... we watched throwback finals games. ... I just wished maybe I could see the finals verbiage behind me and be a part of this." His wishes come true again Thursday night, when James and the Miami Heat open these finals against the San Antonio Spurs, the NBAs first championship-series rematch since 1998. The Heat are going for a third straight title, the Spurs are trying for their fifth crown since 1999. If Miami wins, the perception will be James came through. If Miami loses, the perception will be he didnt do enough. James knows thats the reality. He doesnt mind. "I play for my teammates, our team, the city of Miami, my friends and family, and I gave it all for that," James said. "And at the end of the day, win, lose or draw, Im satisfied with that. I dont get involved in what people say about me and my legacy. I think its actually kind of stupid." By now, the story behind James rise to a champion is no secret. He left Cleveland in 2010 because he felt Miami gave him a better opportunity to win titles. In 2011, when Miami lost to Dallas in the final round, James said he was relying too much upon proving his doubters and naysayers wrong. So the next season, he vowed to play the game the way he had in the past. Championship No. 1 came in 2012, championship No. 2 came last season in an epic seven-game series against the Spurs, and now the shot at No. 3 is here. "Hes really taken his game to a whole other level," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "Obviously as an individual hes grown, as a man, both on and off the court from his own experiences. So I think hes done a phenomenal job. ... If I sit back and look from afar, hes done an unbelievable job under the microscope that hes been under since he was 16 years old of doing things his way and been very successful at doing them." If James is feeling pressure right now, it doesnt show publicly. Away from the public eye, though, teammates have marveled all season about how someone who makes more than $50 million a year in salary and endorsements is working perhaps harder than ever. "Nothing he does is normal," Heat forward Michael Beasley said. "He practices wearing a weight vest. Does that sound normal?" James spent the majority of his question-answering time Wednesday laughing or smiling. Off-stage, he joked with a few other people, chatting and seeming as relaxed as he would if this was the eve of a Heat-Spurs game in January, not one in June. The Spurs are worried about stopping James, they know that wont happen. "We understand LeBron is the best player in the league and just physically hes just a monster," San Antonio forward Tim Duncan said. In 2007, when the Spurs swept Cleveland, James was still learning. In 2011, he felt like he absolutely had to win, and failed to get it done. In 2012 and 2013, he just played the game the way he felt it needs to be played. And its no coincidence that its all fallen into place since. "Every time I come up here and talk to you guys or I do something, you know, very well on the basketball floor or off the floor, my city is rewarded by that," James said. SAN DIEGO -- It was an emotional day for Shelby Miller, who said goodbye to friend and teammate Joe Kelly and then went out and helped the St. Cheap Yeezy Shoes 2020 . Louis Cardinals rebound from their ugliest loss of the season. Miller and three relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Oscar Taveras hit a two-run homer for the St. Louis Cardinals, who beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 Thursday to avoid a three-game series sweep. The victory came hours after the Cardinals traded Kelly and Allen Craig to Boston for right-hander John Lackey. Miller teared up afterward while talking about Kelly. "Thats a tough one for all of us, to lose two guys like that, especially Joe for me," Miller said. "I grew up with him and came up through the farm system with him. Hes going to do well there. I wish him all the best." Miller (8-8) held San Diego to two runs and three hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked none in his first win since June 7. St. Louis roughed up rookie Odrisamer Despaigne a day after playing what manager Mike Matheny called the teams ugliest loss of the season, a 12-1 defeat Wednesday night. "Theyre pros," Matheny said. "I mean, things are going to happen in our lives that weve just got to be able to compartmentalize. These days here I think prove the toughness that these guys develop through the season. You have to put it aside and get the job done." Taveras connected with two out in the second, sending a drive to right for his second homer. But St. Louis 2-0 quickly evaporated. Jedd Gyorko, on a tear since returning Monday from a 44-day stay on the disabled list, homered to right off Miller with one out in the bottom half. It was Gyorkos second in two games and seventh overall. Will Venable homered to right with two outs, his fifth. "There were a couple of solo homers there that got him on the edge a little bit, and then he stepped in and started making some really nice pitches," Matheny said. "I saw him driving the ball down through the bottom of the zone. He pitched a little more." Said Venable: "I didnt see a pitch from him other than a fastball and it was a good one. He just pitched well. When you are aggressive with your fastball you have the option of going to your off-speed stuff. It wasnt like we were beating him on his fastball. We hit a couple of them but he was doing what he wanted really." St. Louis jumped in front again on Matt Hollidays two-run single in the third, and Peter Bourjos added an RBI single in the sixth. Despaigne (2-3) allowed six runs and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings. He won his first two starts but is 0-3 in his last five outings. TRADES Cardinals: St. Louis got Lackey in exchange for Kelly and Craig. Padres: Outfielder Chris Denorfia was traded to Seattle for outfielder Abraham Almonte, who will report to San Diego on Friday, and right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen, who will report to Triple-A El Paso. "When he squatted in the bullpen, it shifted to the back of the knee and it sort of buckled him a bit," manager Bud Black said. "He was in quite a bit of pain squatting." Black said Grandal should be fine to catch Friday night against Atlanta. ON DECK Cardinals: Adam Wainwright (13-5, 1.92 ERA) gets the ball in the opener of an important home series against NL Central-leading Milwaukee on Friday night. Montreal won its second game in a row in Mondays close decision against New Jersey. Alex Galchenyuk scored the game-winner for the Habs when he gave the hosts a 3-2 edge with 10:26 left in the third period. After being benched for the third period for an undisciplined penalty in Saturdays victory over Toronto, Galchenyuk earned a bit of redemption with his game-winner on Monday. Alexei Emelin missed the net on a shot from the middle, but Galchenyuk was there to steer the puck into the net on a broken play to give the Canadiens the lead for good. "I wasnt feeling low on Saturday, it happens, its part of the game. I put it behind me. I was definitely excited about this game. I wanted to play good and was happy with that goal," said Galchenyuk. Bourque tallied a goal and an assist in the win, while David Desharnais contributed two helpers. Max Pacioretty provided the other goal for Montreal and Carey Price turned aside 27-of-29 shots to record the victory. Price was particularly sharp in the opening period, when he held the Devils to just one goal on 11 shots. "We werent ready to play in the first period. It could have been 4-0 for the Devils, but Carey kept us in the game. We owe it to our goalies to step up when they bail us out," said Pacioretty. Price improved his career record against the Devils to 8-9-1 and he expects to get the start again in Wednesdays finale. He has a solid 2.39 goals against average and .916 save percentage in 18 career games versus New Jersey. Steve Bernier and Michael Ryder lit the lamp on Monday for New Jersey, which had a two-game winning streak snapped in the opener of this two-game series. "We played well at the start. We missed a couple of open-netters. Their defensemen made a couple of good plays and at the end that is what made the difference," said Brodeur after Mondays loss. Devils forward Adam Henrique left the opener of the home-and-home set with a lower-body injury and is questionable for Wednesdays clash. Henrique is tied for second on New Jersey with six goals this season. Denver countered with five in a row, but John Wall assisted on a Nene layup then drove in for one of his own to keep Washington in front. Darrell Arthur and Arron Afflalo missed 3s on the next trip, and Wall made it a five-point game with two free throws. Adding to the drama, Wilson Chandler hit a trey from the top of the key with 3.8 seconds left to make it two, and Paul Pierce threw a lazy inbounds pass, which Ty Lawson easily intercepted. Lawson could have forced double overtime, but his uncontested mid-range jumper missed short as time expired. Wall posted 19 points and 16 assists and Pierce scored 19 for the Wizards. Faried drew a foul, but missed both free throws with under two seconds to play. He then blocked Pierces baseline turnaround at the horn. MILWAUKEE -- The Atlanta Hawks got a confidence boost before the playoffs. Fred Warner Super Bowl Jersey . The Milwaukee Bucks found out they were being sold. It turned out to be a big night for two teams headed in different directions with the regular season coming to a close. Mike Scott scored 17 points to lead Atlanta in a 111-103 win Wednesday, hours after Milwaukee owner Herb Kohl announced he was selling his team. Mike Muscala added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting for the Hawks, who rallied from a 12-point deficit in the first half. "I think the defence after the first quarter really picked up. It was where we want it to be and need it to be," coach Mike Budenholzer said. Atlanta is locked into the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and a first-round date with the Indiana Pacers. Scott started for forward Paul Millsap, who was rested to get ready for the post-season. "We feel like we are playing about as well as we have played all year for the most part. So the regular season is done, we will take a couple days and get ready for Indiana," forward Kyle Korver said. Brandon Knight scored 31 points to lead the Bucks, who finished an NBA-worst 15-67. Their dismal season is over, though there is more certainty about the teams future after the prospective new owners said they wanted to build a new arena in Milwaukee. Kohl came into the locker room and addressed the team before the game. Coach Larry Drew thinks his team may have been a little distracted, on top of playing the last game of the year. "I would like to think that the concentration was there, but I think I would be lying if I said it was," he said. "This was a big day with all that has happened." The NBA is expected to approve the estimated $550 million sale to New York investment firm executives Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens, who also committed $100 million toward a new arena to replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Kohl, a former U.S. senator, also promised to fork over $100 million for a new facility. Wearing a dark green suit to match the Bucks dominant team colour, Kohl received a standing ovation and watched about four rows from the floor at centre court as his team went out and scored 39 points in the first quarter, a season-high for the opening period. But Atlanta took control in the second half, even if the team didnt have much at stake. The top goal was to stay sharp but injury-free, and Budenholzer limited the minutes for key players Korver, DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague on top of having Millsap sit out. The contest had the up-and-down feel of a playground pickup game at times, especially during a first half in which the Bucks shot 63 per cent to the Hawks 60. Atlanta trailed by as much as 12 in the first half before going up by double digits in the fourth quarter. "We just wanted to end the season playing good basketball," Korver said. Atlantas second unit seemed to have more energy down the stretch in pulling past the Bucks. At one point, Ramon Sessions had his pass deflected in the backcourt and bounce past teammate Jeff Adrien, who momentarily froze. It was enough time for Cartier Martin to track down the loose ball and coast in for an uncontested layup during a 15-4 run that helped Hawks take a 97-87 lead with 6:54 left. Another second half during which the Bucks ran out of steam -- a season-long issue. "We had some rough nights. This is a humbling experience," said forward John Henson, who had 19 points. "I think for me and everybody on this team, Im pretty sure nobody imagined this could have happened." Khris Middleton finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for Milwaukee. SINGAPORE -- Felipe Aguilar thought a birdie on the final hole might give him a chance to win. Vapormax 2019 Black . He did one better Sunday by holing out a pitching wedge from 142 yards for eagle, capping a remarkable 28 on the back nine to win The Championship at Laguna National. Aguilar closed with a 10-under 62 and wound up winning by one shot over Anders Hansen of Denmark and American David Lipsky, who were two groups behind and couldnt catch him. "Yesterday I thought I had no chance," Aguilar said. "Today I said to my caddie on the 17th after I made a birdie, If we can make a birdie on 18 we can put some pressure on the leader, and he said What about making a 2? I said to him the way I had been hitting the ball I could well do 2 and I did. Its very, very special." The flagstick was to the left toward the water on the 18th green. Aguilars pitching wedge landed about a yard short of the hole and rolled into the centre of the cup. Hansen, who shared the 54-hole lead, was the last player who had a chance to force a playoff with Aguilar, who finished at 22-under 266. Hansen failed to birdie the 17th or 18th hole and wound up with a 67. Hansen, who recently returned to the tour after a six-month layoff due to wrist surgery, had led by three shots after a birdie on the 12th hole but struggled on the final holes with a bogey on the 16th to fall out of a share of the lead, and two pars at the finish. "What can you say? I heard (Aguilar) finished 2-2. Its just one of those days," Hansen said. "Its just really, really disappointing." Lipsky also tried to keep pace with three birdies on his back nine, but he fell just short of capturing his first European Tour title. "I was still trying to give it a run even on the last hole," he said. "I was still trying to do everything I can to win." Aguilar started the day four shots back in a tie for seventh, but started to climb into contention with four straight birdies to start the back nine. After a birdie on the par-5 15th, he then sank a 10-footer for another birdie on the 17th and holed his approach shot for eagle on the 18th. "I got a bit lucky," he said. "I hit one of my best shots on 17 and then again on 18." The Chilean, whos been dealing with a sore wrist he injured while mountain biking, won for just the second time on the European Tour, his previous title coming in Indonesia in 2008. "Its been a bit of a drought for six years. Ive lost a couple of times in play-offs and had a couple of top-3s and top-5s, but never was able to get the round going on the last day, so it is nice to finally do it," he said. Hansen was aiming for his first title since the Joburg Open in 2009. He was playing in just his fourth event since surgery last year and was coming off a tie for fifth last week in the China Open. "Obviously, the last two weeks have been really, really good," he said. "Ive hit the ball really well and putted nicely so there is not much to say. I cant really blame myself for this." Indias Rahil Gangjee birdied his final five holes to finish in fourth place at 19 under, a stroke ahead of Englands Chris Wood (67) in sole fifth. Panuphol Pittayarat of Thailand couldnt keep up the form that saw him lead after the first two rounds and share the lead with Hansen after the third. MIAMI - Marlins ace Jose Fernandez was struck in the thigh by a sharp grounder and kept pitching despite discomfort. Fausse Yeezy Pas Cher . Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig slammed into the wall trying unsuccessfully for a game-saving catch and crumpled to the warning track in pain. A seesaw struggle Sunday left both teams hurting, but it stung more for Los Angeles. Miami improved baseballs best home record when Jeff Baker hit an RBI double off the wall with two outs in the ninth inning to win 5-4. Puig slammed into the wall trying for an acrobatic catch and was shaken up but not seriously hurt. Teammates ran out to check on him while the Marlins celebrated a wild victory. "Just exactly how we drew it up," manager Mike Redmond said with a grin. Fernandez avoided a serious injury in the fifth when he was hit on the back of the left leg by a sharp grounder off the bat of Dee Gordon. Asked whether he expected to make his next start, Fernandez said, "Probably I will be fine." The Marlins improved to 13-5 at home, while their 2-10 road record is the worst in the majors. "We have a comfort level here," Redmond said. "I love our approach here. We seem to play with so much confidence in this ballpark, and today you could just feel the energy." Giancarlo Stanton homered twice and drove in three runs for Miami, giving him the NL leads with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs. Teammate Christian Yelich hit his second home run. Los Angeles came from behind three times, and a blown save cost Fernandez the victory. With Marlins closer Steve Cishek unavailable after pitching in three consecutive games, A.J. Ramos (2-0) tried to protect a one-run lead in the ninth for his first career save. But Chone Figgins walked and scored on a double by Andre Ethier with no outs. A diving stop by shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and an overturned call on a force play at second base helped the Marlins escape the inning with the score tied. Hechavarria started the bottom of the ninth with a single off Jamey Wright (2-2) and advanced to third on a sacrifice and a groundout. Baker followed with a drive to right, and a retreating Puig slammed his head and lower left leg against the fence. The ball deflected off the wall and hit Puig in the face, and he collapsed to his stomach. Puig was slow to walk off the field but passed a concussion test. The Dodgers said his status is day to day. "He hit the wall good," manager Don Mattingly said. "He seemed to be OK when he was walking in, but Im sure they are going to keep looking at him. He almost made an unbelievable play." Fernandez briefly thought his day might be done when Gordons comebacker struck him. "It hit me hard," Fernandez said. "Right away my hamstring became really tight. I didnt know if I was going to keep throwing. After that it was a little tougher to pitch. It was getting tighter and tighter and tighter." Fernandez went on to pitch seven innings, left with a 4-3 lead and remained unbeaten at home in 20 career starts. But he lacked his customary command, allowing four walks, and they led to both earned runs against him. "It wasnt an easy game," Fernandez said. "Like everybody knows, the Dodgers are one of the best teams in the league. Thats why they get paid the way they get paid." Fernandez, the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year, has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a home start. The only other pitcher in the past 100 years to allow fewer than three earned runs in 20 consecutive home starts was Orel Hershiser in 1985-86. The Marlins rank last in the NL in attendance but enjoy a bump when Fernandez pitches, and his latest win drew 30,145. Stanton lived up to his reputation for jaw-dropping homers. He hit a two-run tape-measure homer in the first inning, then lined another homer off the nightclub facade in left field leading off the sixth to put Miami ahead 4-3. "Its almost like you sort of get used to it, which is crazy," Redmond said. "The second one was like a 54-degree wedge you want to keep down in the wind. I dont know if Ive ever seen a baseball hit that hard on a line." NOTES: OF Nick Buss, designated for assignment by the Dodgers on April 30, was claimed by Oakland. ... Hes the same player he always was, only now his efforts are being rewarded. The rookie manager has made a habit of heaping praise on others when things are going well, and accepting criticism when they arent. But in the case of Hurtado, its what the coach is NOT saying that may be the secret to a superb run of form.MILWAUKEE -- The Miller Park roof was open and the wind was blowing out to centre. With a home run-prone pitcher on the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers, the conditions were ripe for the Cincinnati Reds to have a big day at the plate. Billy Hamilton got the slugging started by leading the game off with a home run, and the Reds finished Sunday afternoon with eight runs over the final two innings to send Milwaukee fans to the exits early in a 13-4 victory. Brandon Phillips added a two-run shot in the first inning and Todd Frazier later hit his team-high 15th homer for the Reds. Hamilton connected for the second straight day, off Marco Estrada (5-4). "We know we can do it, but we havent been doing it a lot," Frazier said. "Today, it showed we can do those (kinds) of things and we got a pitcher that we can hit a little bit." The Reds moved back within two games of .500 despite a rocky outing by Mike Leake (4-6), who allowed four runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings. Cincinnati took two of three from the NL Central-leading Brewers. "It was definitely big," manager Bryan Price said. "Were establishing the fact that we can play this team very well." His offence collected some gaudy statistics, including a season-high 19 hits. Among other highlights: --Ten different Reds scored runs. --A career-high three doubles for Ryan Ludwick, who went 4 for 5. --Six players with at least two hits. "Things didnt go right on the mound for us," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. Hot dog wrappers were blowing around the warning track early in the game, a bad sign for Estrada. The right-hander who made mistakes up in the zone has given up a major league-high 23 homers in just 84 innings, with 18 coming since May 1. "Mentally, I felt great. Physically, I felt great. I think I just tried way too hard and thats what happens," Estrada said. "I was rushing stuff, leavving balls up and got hit around. Yeezy Boost 350 v2 Cream White Pas Cher. . Once that inning was over, I came back in and calmed down." The Reds led 3-0 in the fourth when Milwaukee loaded the bases with two outs on an intentional walk to Jean Segura. Estrada followed with his RBI chopper up the middle and Scooter Gennett then sliced a double the other way down the left-field line to tie it. Milwaukee might have scored even more in the inning had Carlos Gomez not been doubled off first after taking off on Aramis Ramirezs long fly to right tracked down at the warning track by Jay Bruce. Frazier followed with his two-run shot the next inning to put Cincinnati up for good. Hamilton led off the inning with a single and drew a few pickoff throws before Frazier homered on an 0-1 fastball up in the zone. Leake gave up Jonathan Lucroys homer to centre leading off the bottom of the fifth to get the Brewers within 5-4 before the Reds broke it open with five runs in the eighth. Brewers reliever Rob Wooten allowed six straight hits without recording an out and watched his ERA balloon by nearly two runs to 4.98. "I did what I could, but our offence really came around today," Leake said. Lucroy added a double to go 2 for 4 and raised his average to .336.
