(SportsNetwork. Air Force 1 Alte Bianche .com) - The Canucks are hoping to string together back-to-back victories when they hose the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night and a win tonight would give the club its first winning streak since consecutive triumphs on Jan. 18 and 21. Vancouver has won two of three on a four-game road trip after besting the Florida Panthers 4-3 yesterday in a shootout. Vancouver was facing Roberto Luongo for the first time since dealing him to the Panthers on March 4. Luongo made 29 saves, but also yielded the lone goal of the shootout to the Canucks Nicklas Jensen. Eddie Lack, whose production as a rookie this season led to Luongo being dealt, ended with 26 saves and stopped all three skaters in the shootout. Dan Hamhuis and Alexandre Burrows scored in regulation for the Canucks, who escaped with two points after giving up a game-tying goal with 1:35 left in regulation. "Especially the way the game was tied up there at the end, to get the win was huge for us," said Jensen. Vancouver won for just the third time in its last nine games (3-5-1) and improved to 3-12-1 in its past 16 on the road. The victory also pulled the Canucks to within three points of the Dallas Stars and Phoenix Coyotes for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Canucks have lost four of their past six versus the Lightning, including a 4-2 defeat at home on Jan. 1. Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula both had a goal and an assist, while Bishop made 28 saves. Lack yielded four goals on 33 shots for the Canucks, who have won four of their past six in Tampa. Both Bishop and Lack faced their respective opponent for the first time in their career in that earlier meeting. Ben Bishop is one of the main reasons that the Lightning remain in the playoff picture despite an extended absence by Steven Stamkos due to injury. Fresh off of setting a club record for wins in a season, Bishop will look to lead the Lightning past the Canucks in the finale of a six-game homestand. Though Stamkos missed 45 games from mid-November to early March with a broken right leg, the Lightning were able to keep pace in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division. With 79 points, Tampa Bay is occupying the first wild card spot and also is just one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in the division. Bishop has been a big part of that success as he is among the league leaders with 31 wins, five shutouts, a 2.10 goals against average and .929 save percentage. The 27-year-old, in his first season as a full-time starter, had struggled to string victories together recently, but won a second outing in a row for the first time since late January with a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Bishop made 23 saves in his eighth career shutout and surpassed Nikolai Khabibulins 2002-03 franchise record of 30 wins in a season. "Its a nice accomplishment," Bishop said, "A a whole lot of credit goes to the guys in front of me. I dont get that without them. Its a team thing. I dont like at it as an individual thing." Defenceman Michael Kostka scored in a second straight game and also had an assist, giving him five points in seven games since joining the Lightning off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks. "I just try to play solid defensively when Im on the ice," said Kostka. "But its nice to be able to chip in with a goal when I have the chance." B.J. Crombeen and Nate Thompson also scored in the victory, Tampa Bays second straight following an 0-3-2 drought. Air Force 1 Scontate . And my friends in the media are already asking That Question. But Graham DeLaet isnt ready to look beyond his first tee shot on Saturday. After equaling the course record on Friday, you can forgive everyone for getting a little excited about the possibilities. You know, the chance that this damn 60-year drought can come to an end. It would be a great moment for Canadian golf, a great moment for DeLaet and, selfishly, a great moment for the keyboard tappers and microphone holders who would no longer have to ask That Question any longer. But lets back up just a bit here. Its not Sunday, yet. DeLaet ignited everyones imagination of just what the coronation might look like by posting a smooth 63. For the first time in a while, his putter behaved as he used his flat stick just 25 times when on the green. That, he said, was the result of some work he did earlier in the week with short game coach Gabriel Hjertstedt. The two of them came up with one small change that, as it often does with something as confounding as putting, made a big difference. "My putting coach was here Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday," said DeLaet. "We put in some good work and changed a little bit of how I was seeing lines. I was picking spots in front of the ball instead of picking spots at the hole. Just something a little bit different and it was nice to see some putts rolling in." To a certain extent, DeLaet will always live and die with his putting. Its his Achilles heel in an otherwise bulletproof golf game. Just look at the stats for this year – hes second in greens in regulation, 11th in driving distance, fifth in total driving and – wait for it – 137th in strokes gained, putting, the key indicator of how a player performs on the greens. But on this day, he was pure. He drained a 30-footer on 14 for a birdie, another one from 21 feet on the first hole and sunk a 20-footer to save a bogey on the 18th hole. That last one might be the most vital of the mmany that found the bottom of the cup. Air Force 1 Alte Special Field. Playing his ninth hole of the day and already four under for the round, DeLaet drove his ball into the water, took a drop then hit his next shot up the fairway. From there he lofted a wedge onto the green. "I was kind of counting a double when I was walking up to the 18th green," he said, "so to hole that putt was a nice bonus." Its been a while since DeLaet has enjoyed such a good day with his putter, but he wasnt alone in getting the balls to drop. "It was definitely fun to see some putts roll in," he said. "All of us were kind of making putts all day." All of us would be his group of Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk; the trio combined for 22 birdies. Furyk also tied the course record, held by Scott Verplank and David Morland IV. "There was just so much momentum," he stated. "The crowd was getting behind us. Even Matt and Jim, the crowd was starting to get behind them. They were just seeing such good golf all day. You definitely start feeding off each other and you almost expect to hole putts just to keep up." While DeLaet loved the emotion displayed by the fans at Royal Montreal – the vast majority on the property seemed to be following his group – and the way he played, he was careful not to start thinking about buying any silver polish just yet. The player who has yet to win a tournament on the PGA Tour is savvy enough to realize that it might take two more course records to get his name on the trophy. "I know theres going to be a little bit of added pressure because Im in good position heading into the weekend," said DeLaet. "But at the same time were only half way through this thing and if I can put something together like this [Saturday] then maybe we can start talking about that." Maybe for him. But in the brasseries and bistros and the dix-neuf holes, theyre already chatting. As they have been for oh, about 60 years. ' ' '
PITTSFORD, N. Gary Matthews Jersey .Y. -- It had been so long that Brittany Lincicome didnt quite know what to think about her spot atop the LPGA Championship leaderboard. Lincicome opened a three-stroke lead Friday in the wind-swept tournament, the LPGA Tours fourth major championship of the season, as Americans moved into position for their fourth straight major victory of the year. "I feel like Ive been doing a lot of really good things," Lincicome said. "I feel like Ive been playing really well, driving it far, which is awesome. But its just not coming together." It has at Monroe Golf Club. The long-hitting Lincicome followed her opening 67 with a 68 to reach 9 under as she chases her first title since 2011. She won the 2009 Kraft Nabisco for her lone major title and has five LPGA Tour victories. Lexi Thompson, tied for the first-round lead with Meena Lee, dropped into a tie for second with defending champion Inbee Park of South Korea. Thompson had a 72, and Park shot 66. That gave the United States two players at the top with majors already on the trophy shelf. "Its a great leaderboard so far," said Thompson, who won the Kraft Nabisco to start the major run. "Today was a little more difficult than yesterday. Just didnt hit it as well, but I did make some good putts, so Im going to take a positive out of it." Its the first time Americans have won the first three majors since 1999, and they havent won four since 1992. Michelle Wie won the U.S. Womens Open, and Mo Martin surged to victory in the final round at the Womens British Open. A fifth major, the Evian Championship in France, was added last year. Seventeen-year-old Lydia Ko of New Zealand had a 69 to join Lee, from South Korea, and Jane Park at 5 under. Lee had a 73, and Park shot 69. Top-ranked Stacy Lewis sputtered again with a 1-over 73 to finish the two rounds at even par. Jennifer Kirby (79), from Paris, Ont., dropped from second in the first round to 54th on Friday at a 2-over par. Lincicome had an eagle and three birdies to go with one bogey for her second solid day. She averaged 277.5 yards off the tee on the two measured holes and needed only 26 putts for the second straight day. "Its been incredible," Lincicome said. "I havent been here in a while, especially in a major." Thompson reached 8 under after a birdie at the par-5 14th hole but followed with bogeys at Nos. 8 and 9 to drop into a tie with Lincicome at the turn. Lincicome, who started the day one shot off the lead, birdied the par-5 12th hole to gain a one-shot advantage while Inbee Park slowly clawed her way back into contention after shooting even par on the first day. Park had two birdies and chipped in from a greenside bunker for an eagle on her first five holes on the back side, and three birdies in the first three holes on the front put her at 6 under. "Quite different from yesterday," said Park, who won three majors last year. "I thought I need to change things a little bit and get a little more aggressive, and thats what I did." Thompsons birdie at No. 3 forged a tie with Lincicome and Meena Lee at 7 under, but it was short-lived. Moments later, Lincicome notched the sixth eagle of the day at the par-5 14th hole to put her two shots ahead and then parred out. Unable to string any sort of run together as she did on the first day, Thompson dropped into a tie for second after a bogey at the par-3 sixth hole, statistically the sixth-most difficult hole on the day. Locust Hill had been LPGAs host in the Rochester area for 37 straight years before the tour made the switch this year to nearby Monroe. The Donald Ross-designed course is about 300 yards longer at 6,717 yards, and the wider fairways favoured long hitters. "Right now, the fairways are generous. You can just bomb it off the tee," said Suzann Pettersen, tied for seventh at 4 under after a 69. "You can risk the extra few yards. Even if you miss it (the fairway), youll still be able to get to the greens somehow." A gusting wind strafed the course all day, sending leaves and bits of bark onto some greens and making each shot an adventure. Pettersen, who averaged over 276 yards off the tee, second-best over the first two rounds, was in the morning group and managed to stay out of trouble for the most part. It wasnt easy. "It is playable out there, but youve got to hit some great golf shots," Pettersen said. "The wind is a bit choppy. Its bounding up and down all the time. Youve got to try and find the pocket, try and hit the right shot that gives you the highest percentage." Ko, already a four-time winner on her LPGA Tour career, hit all 14 fairways and reached 15 greens in regulation in notching six birdies with three bogeys in an up-and-down day. Ko needed 31 putts to complete the round -- six more than the first day -- in part because of a three-putt bogey at No. 2 and then failing to get up-and-down at No. 4 in making another bogey. Both holes are par 4s. "I just give myself as many opportunities as I can," said the low-key Ko, who didnt touch a club during a recent five-day stretch because her swing was "on holiday." "I wish I was a long hitter," Ko said. "Im just trying to play to my strengths." Ko, a two-time winner this season, remained focused on the moment and just shrugged at the possibility of becoming the youngest winner of a major in LPGA Tour history. "I think about winning at the end of the week," Ko said. "Im going to go out there and just have some fun. Theres still two more days. Im pretty confident. Its good to be in this position." Dusty Baker Jersey . Garcia had eight birdies overall to go with a lone bogey on the fourth to move to an 18-under total of 198 at the Asian Tour event. "I was able to hit some really nice shots and then was able to roll two or three really good putts in and it was nice to be able to finish birdie, birdie on this difficult finishing stretch," Garcia said. LAKE FOREST, Ill. Sam Mills Jersey . -- The Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year contract with two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Tillman on Friday, retaining one of their cornerstone players as they try to revitalize a struggling defence. Tillmans status was one of the biggest questions hovering over the team this off-season after the Bears went 8-8 and missed the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years. But they answered that by announcing he will be back for a 12th season. The Bears have been overhauling a defence that struggled in a big way last season, releasing eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers. They decided to bring back Tillman even though he is 33 and coming off a season in which he was limited to eight games because of a torn right triceps. "Charles is one of the NFLs great players and a true leader on and off the field, and were happy he will be staying in Chicago," general manager Phil Emery said in a statement. "He remains the best in our game at forcing turnovers and always has brought a tough, physical presence to our secondary. Charles also has a special connection to the people and community across Chicago and were excited for that to continue." The Bears saw enough good things before he went down to re-sign Tillman. He had three interceptions, four pass breakups and three forced fumbles, but his injury in a loss to Detroit on Nov. 10 cut short what had been another solid season. The Bears had already lost defensive tackle Henry Melton (ACL tear) and linebacker D.J. Williams (torn pectoral muscle) to season-ending injuries. Star linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder fracture) was also sidelined at the time. Quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a high left ankle sprain against the Lions and missed the next four games. Tillmans 42 forced fumbles are the second most in the league and most among cornerbacks since the Bears drafted him in the second round in 2003. He is also tied for fifth in interceptions, fifth in interception return yards and tied for second in interception return touchdowns during that span. Now, Tillman is returning to a defence that will have a different look up front, personnel-wise. The Bears have two new ends in Willie Young and Lamarr Houston, and theyve also added Ryan Mundy and M.D. Jennings to the mix at safety. Whether Melton, a free agent, will be back remains unclear. But the Bears appear to be set at cornerback for next season after retaining Tillman and giving Tim Jennings a four-year deal. Jonathan Goodwin Jersey . 31-Feb. 2. HOUSTON -- Will Bruin scored early in the second half, and the Houston Dynamo held on for a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew on Wednesday for their second straight win. Oscar McBride . Bruin gave Houston (4-4-2) the lead in the 50th minute with a header off Brad Davis free kick. Davis kick from outside the left box curled in front of the goal, and Bruin headed it in from just outside the 6-yard box for his sixth goal of the season. Justin Meram missed tying the game by inches in the 84th minute as his shot from above the half-circle clanked off the near post and out. The Crew (3-3-3) are winless in six straight games. NEW YORK -- Making a pair of thrifty deals to fill holes on their roster, the New York Yankees agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract with second baseman Brian Roberts and a $7 million, two-year deal with left-hander Matt Thornton. The deals are contingent on the players passing physicals, a person familiar with the agreements told The Associated Press on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contracts were not final. Roberts is among the options at second base to replace Robinson Cano, who left the Yankees for a $240 million, 10-year contract with Seattle. Kelly Johnson, signed to a $3 million deal, is another possibility. An All-Star in 2005 and 2007, the 36-year-old Roberts had spent his entire 13-year major league career with Baltimore. He has not played a full season since 2009 because of injuries. Roberts signed a $48 million, five-year contract before the 2009 season, then hit .283 with 16 homers, 79 RBIs and a big league-high 56 doubles. His injury problems started the following year, when he missed most of spring training with a herniated disk in his back, then strained an abdominal muscle in the fourth game of the season while stealing second base against Toronto. Roberts came down with pneumonia and didnt return until July 23. Then he missed the final six games of the season because of a concussion sustained when he knocked himself on the batting helmet with his bat after striking out in the ninth inning at Tampa Bay that Sept. 27. Roberts had another concussion while sliding intoo first base against Boston on May 16, 2011, and didnt return until June 12 the following year. Cheap NFL Jerseys China For Sale. He appeared in just 17 games due to season-ending hip surgery in August, and had another operation for a sports hernia in December. His total of 77 games last season was his highest in four years, and he hit .249 with eight homers and 39 RBIs. Roberts strained his right hamstring while stealing second base in Baltimores third game of the season April 4 and was sidelined until June 30. The 37-year-old Thornton replaces Boone Logan, who left for a $16.5 million, three-year contract with Colorado. A 10-year big league veteran, Thornton was 0-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 60 relief appearances this year for the Chicago White Sox and Boston, which acquired him in July for minor league outfielder Brandon Jacobs. Thornton made $5.5 million in each of the last two seasons, and the Red Sox declined a $6 million option, which included a $1 million buyout. His agreement with the Yankees was first reported by the YES Network. When the agreements are completed, along with a pending three-year deal with outfielder Carlos Beltran, the Yankees projected luxury tax payroll for 2014 will rise to $177.7 million for 15 players. Thats about the maximum if the team wants to remain under the $189 million threshold, which includes $11 million to $12 million for benefits. New York would gain flexibility if Alex Rodriguez is suspended for most of the season, relieving the team of a large percentage of his $25 million salary. ' ' '
DAVIE, Fla. Wholesale Hurricanes Jerseys . -- Unaccustomed to interviews because hes a backup tackle, Will Yeatman stood before a couple of dozen reporters and cameramen, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead under the hot TV lights. When the questions about the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal quit coming, Yeatman sagged in the chair at his locker, relieved to be out of the media glare. "Whew," he said with a nervous chuckle, shaking his head. The Dolphins (4-4) have endured a week of withering scrutiny while trying to prepare for a game that is very much and afterthought outside their locker room. Theyll play Monday night at Tampa Bay (0-8), happy to shift the focus from their troubled locker room to the playing field, if only for a few hours. While the Buccaneers are winless, the Dolphins have descended into something worse -- a team under NFL investigation because of a bullying case thats national news. Tackle Jonathan Martin left the team last week and complained he endured daily abuse from teammates, including guard Richie Incognito, who was suspended. Martin will meet late next week in Los Angeles with the NFLs special investigator, a person familiar with the situation said Friday. The person confirmed the upcoming meeting to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the league and team havent announced the details of the investigation. Meeting with Martin will be Ted Wells, a senior partner in a New York law firm who was appointed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to investigate possible misconduct in the Dolphins workplace. The case threatens to sabotage the season, leaving the Dolphins missing two starters in an offensive line that played poorly even with them, while the team copes with the distraction of seemingly endless revelations and rumours. Theyve been impossible to ignore, as coach Joe Philbin knows, because he tried. "Unfortunately I called my 92-year-old father, and he was on the computer, so I had to tell him to get off the computer," Philbin said. Oddsmakers dont expect this weeks developments to have a big effect. The Dolphins opened as 3 1/2-point favourites before the case mushroomed into a full-blown scandal, and theyre now favoured by 2 1/2 points. Perhaps the Dolphins will channel all of the surrounding negative energy into a positive performance. Weary of fending off endless questions, theyve defended Incognito, Philbin and their locker room culture, speaking with a passion often lacking in their play this year. The team showed signs of dissension during a recent four-game losing streak, but the constant stream of allegations in the media have served as a unifying force. "Theyre attacking our coach. Theyre attacking the values of the rest of the people in this locker room. And they have the mike last," receiver Brian Hartline said. "Were kind of tired of it." While Hartline complained the team had been "bullied" by the media, other players wryly noted the lack of interest in the upcoming game. Defensive end Cameron Wake patiently parried a succession of questions from reporters, all about Martin and Incognito, then smiled when a pause came. "Nobody cares about Tampa, huh?" he said. The Dolphins do care about the Bucs, Wake said, and can shut out everything else. "Football is full of distractions, whether its the tweak in your ankle, the heat, snow, the rain, the mud, the guy across from you," he said. "All this stuff thats going on outside is kind of the same as the crowd noise on third down. We have to deal with it. Its all a part of the business, and you have to make sure you do your job." Doing the job has been a problem for the offensive line, which has given up an NFL-high 35 sacks while struggling to create running room. And now the starting lineup in the front five will change for the third game in a row. Centre Mike Pouncey and right guard John Jerry have been the only season-long constants. Bryant McKinnie will start his third game at left tackle since being acquired in a trade with Minnesota. Tyson Clabo will start at right tackle after being benched two weeks ago. Nate Garner will make his first start of the year at left guard in place of Incognito. Yeatman may see occasional action as a sixth lineman, which he did in last weeks win over Cincinnati. "Everyones focused on doing their job, and everyones job is to block the man across from them," Yeatman said, trying to ignore those beads of sweat. Hurricanes Jerseys China . Authorities in Medina, Minn., released the details one day after Cunningham was jailed for another alleged incident with the woman he had been living with for the previous eight months. Cunningham had already been charged with felony domestic assault for allegedly choking the woman last week. Police said they received a call from the woman in the early morning hours on Sunday saying that Cunningham had violated a protection order by contacting her. "When the officer arrived and reviewed the messages, they were direct and rose to a terroristic level," the police statement read. Cunningham surrendered Sunday and turned over his cellphone and computer as part of the investigation. The Associated Press left a message with Cunninghams attorney seeking comment. The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded their leading scorer, Martin St. Mike Matheny . Louis, to the New York Rangers in exchange for their captain, Ryan Callahan along with a 2015 first-round and a conditional 2014 second-round draft pick. Should the Rangers advance to the 2014 Eastern Conference Final, the 2014 second-rounder would become a first-round pick. In the event Callahan should re-sign with the Lightning, the Rangers would receive Tampa Bays second-round pick at the 2015 NHL Draft while the Lightning would receive the Rangers seventh-round draft pick in 2015. St. Louis had been the Lightnings leader in both goals (29) and points (61) this season prior to being traded. The 38-year-old St. Louis was rumoured to have wanted out of Tampa Bay after being left off the initial Team Canada Olympic roster by Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman. St. Louis was later named to the team as Steven Stamkos injury replacement. "Wed like to thank Marty for everything he has done on and off the ice during his outstanding 13-year career in Tampa Bay," said Yzerman. "He has been one of the greatest players in the organizations history but in the end we honored his request today. We wish him and his family the best of luck as he continues his career in New York." St. Louis in third season of a four-year deal he signed with the Lightning prior to the 2010-2011 season worth an average annual value of $5.625 million. In 45 games with the Rangers this season, Callahan has scored 11 goals and 14 assists. Eligible for unrestricted free agency at seasons end, Callahan carries a salary cap hit for 2013-14 of $4.275 million. He and the Rangers have been unable to agree on a contract extension, with his salary demands believed to be in excess of $6.5 million per season on a long-term deal. Callahan and the Rangers were about $200,000 per year apart in contract talks before the trade was made with the lack of a no-trade clause apparently a big issue. "We never felt our request for Callahan was without support of other contracts, Dustin Brown, Miku Koivu etc.," said Callahans agent Steve Bartlett. "Also, after Rangers gave permission to talk to other teams, I knew I could get a contract done, so confirmed asking price or term not out of line. Also, as we neared the deadline we made every effort to get closer to their number and agreed to Rangers term of 6 years, we never got a handle on the no trade issue and it would make zero sense to give up UFA to sign and be subject to trade." "The Lightning are very excited to have Ryan Callahan join the organization and help us in our quest to make the playoffs," said Yzerman. "Ryan is an outstanding player and leader who we look forward to seeing on the ice tomorrow night." Originally undrafted, St. Louis has fought his way to a long and productive NHL career, scoring 369 goals and 604 assissts in 1,041 career games with the Lightning and Calgary Flames. A six-time NHL All-Star, St. Louis is the reigning Art Ross Trophy-winner for most points in the 2012-13 NHL season. He has twice won the Art Ross, his previous win coming in the 2003-04 season in which he also won the Hart Memorial Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Awards for Most Valuable Player as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association and the NHL players, respectively. St. Louis won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004 and has won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the NHLs Most Gentlemanly Player in three of the past four NHL seasons. Callahan, 28, is in his eighth NHL season, all with the Rangers. Callahan is a three-time 20-goal scorer with a career-high 29 in 2011-12 when he also set a personal best in points with 61.He has scored 132 goals and 122 assists in 450 career games Selected in the fourth round (127th overall) at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Callahan has been selected to represent the United States at two Olympic Games. Jason Heyward homered with two outs in the 10th off Addison Reed to put the Braves up 3-2, but Miguel Montero tied it again with an opposite-field, one-out shot off Anthony Varvaro in Arizonas half of the inning. Atlanta tied it in the third when Andrelton Simmons doubled, took third on the right fielder Parras errant throw, then scored on Heywards grounder, sliding in barely below the catcher Monteros tag after a high throw from the third baseman Prado. Bolland, who scored the Stanley Cup-clincher for the Chicago Blackhawks last season, got the game-winner in overtime as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 in a back-and-forth game Saturday night at Air Canada Centre. Bolland finished off a 3-on-1 rush with Cody Franson and Mason Raymond just over two minutes into the extra period. He now has three goals on the season, two of them game-winning goals. "We have confidence, we just dont give up," Bolland said. "In Chicago, when I was there, wed be down 5-4 or 5-1 against teams and we knew we could come back. We have that feeling in the room. If were down, we can come back." Bollands goal came after Joffrey Lupul had tied the game in the final minute of regulation with goalie Jonathan Bernier pulled for an extra attacker. "We got a lot of experience in here, a lot of character players," said James van Riemsdyk. "We dont ever quit and thats a huge attribute to have ... We never seem to stop playing and thats key." The win improved the Leafs record to 5-1-0, while the Oilers, who began a six-game road trip, dropped to 1-3-1. The lead changed hands six times and neither team was up by more than a goal at any point of the game. "It was back and forth, and we kept coming," said Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. "Thats probably one of the most momentum swings -- back and forth, back and forth -- that youre going to see. Wed like to come out on the winning end and we did." Lupul and Van Riemsdyk each had two goals for Toronto, and Nazem Kadri had the other. Bernier, making his third straight start, stopped 26 shots for the win. Ryan Smyth replied with a pair of goals for Edmonton. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Boyd Gordon and Jordan Eberle had the others, while Devan Dubnyk made 20 saves and Mark Arcobello added three assists. "Our guys were battling hard and we couldnt keep the surge from coming," said head coach Dallas Eakins. "I thought we were doing a lot of great, great things and it just seemed like that puck kept coming in our net." The opening period was an omen for things to come as the teams each scored a ppair of goals. Ed Podolak Jersey. Edmonton opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first on a controversial goal. Bernier went behind the net to play the puck around the boards and Eberle clipped his right foot as he tried to squeeze between Bernier and the post. "He kinda caught me from behind, so thats why I was late on that play. But thats part of the game and thats the referees call." Toronto tied the game at 9:47 on a weak goal. Kadri took a pass from Raymond at the left faceoff dot and roofed a wrist shot over Dubynk just a few feet from the goal-line. The Leafs took the lead on a power-play goal at 15:26 of the period. Van Riemsdyk tipped a wrist shot from the point by Cody Franson past Dubynk for his fourth goal of the season. The Oilers got that goal back with less than two minutes left in the period on a 5-on-3 power play. With Colton Orr and Van Riemsdyk in the penalty box, Nugent-Hopkins snapped a shot from the slot that snuck between Berniers right arm and his body into the net. The teams split a pair of goals in the second period, and the back-and-forth hockey continued in the third. After Eberle and Van Riemsdyk exchanged goals, the Oilers reclaimed the lead at 11:27 to make it 5-4 when Smyth got his second of the game, finishing off a passing play from Eberle. That lead stood until the final minute of the third when Lupul tied it with a shot from the bottom of the left circle, allowing Bolland to complete the comeback for Toronto. "My teeth are going to be ground down by the 20-game mark if we keep playing the way we did tonight, as far as exchanging chances and mistakes," Carlyle said. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Yu Darvish brought the heat to win for the first time in eight starts and the Texas Rangers squeezed out a series-clinching victory. Air Max 270 Be True Pas Cher . Relying heavily on his fastball, primarily a four-seamer, Darvish struck out eight in 6 2-3 scoreless innings and the Rangers scored twice on a squeeze bunt in a 3-2 victory over Mat Latos and the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. "His performance was good. He was going against another good one, and they matched zeroes," manager Ron Washington said. "Once we put the runs on the board, Darvish did what we needed him to do. Looked like the same Darvish to me." The Rangers finally scored against Latos (7-2) in the fifth when Elvis Andrus bunted. Latos made a barehanded grab and scoop in one motion. The toss home hit the earflap of Engel Beltre, who was still on the ground when Leonys Martin also scored for a 2-0 lead. "It was just a reaction. He bunted it pretty hard. I felt I could make a play," Latos said. " As I look back, I should have held on to the ball." Darvish (8-3) won for the first time since May 16, ending his longest professional winless drought -- in his two years with the Rangers or seven in Japan before that. The right-hander was 0-2 with a 2.93 ERA in those seven games, when Texas scored only 12 runs while he was on the mound. "As a starter, if the team doesnt win the day that you pitch, that can be really frustrated, so that was my thing," Darvish said through his translator, though he insisted later he wasnt overwhelmed by the winless streak. "I was thinking how I could live day by day, and nothing really special." The AL West-leading Rangers have won 10 of 13 games since a six-game losing streak. Cincinnati has lost seven of nine. Darvish threw 77 of 117 pitches for strikes on a sunny afternoon when the game-time temperature was 90 degrees-- 10 degrees cooler than at the start of Friday nights series opener. While increasing his majors-best strikeout total to 151, he walked four and scattered four hits with only one 1-2-3 inning. There was an 11-pitch at-bat in the first inning against Brandon Phillips, who didnt get a breaking ball while at the plate. The first ball didnt come until the ninth pitch, and he eventually struck out to end the inning. That set a tone for what Darvish was trying to do. "I just wanted to shut all the people up that were talking about my fastballs," Darvish said. "I love when he throws more fastballs," shortstop Andrus said. "I think that he gets a little tougher. Thats when his slider works way better too. He did a great job of keeping us in the game. ... When youve got your ace out there, you always want to win and score some runs early so he can feel better." Joe Nathan, the fifth Texas reliever, pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save in 28 chances. Latos, 21-6 in his 50 career starts for the Reds, struck out nine and walked two in 6 2-3 innings. He gave up three runs, two of them earned. Beltre led off the fifth by dragging a bunt past the mound for a hit before Martins hustling double. Martin extended his hitting streak to 14 games, matching the longest by a Rangers player this season, on the hit to right-centre when he slid inside of second base and reached back to grab it while avoiding the tag. When sliding into home, Beltre couldnt steer clear of the ball that ricocheted off his head, nor could he avoid the hard collision with catcher Devin Mesoraco trying to block the plate. "I figured Andrus would be aggressive so I called for a first-pitch slider. To his credit, he got the bunt down," Mesoraco said. "With the speed they had on the bases, it didnt have to be a perfect bunt." Martin scored and Andrus wound up at second before trainer Jamie Reed and Washington were able to check on Beltre, who got up and walked back to the dugout a couple of minutes later and stayed in the game. Martin led off the seventh with a single, stole second and scored on a bloop single by Nelson Cruz. Robbie Ross got the last out of the seventh after taking over for Darvish. Tanner Scheppers made his team-high 39th appearance, after three days off, and threw only two of his nine pitches for strikes. Scheppers walked Zack Cozart on four pitches in the eighth and gave up consecutive singles to Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips before going to a 2-0 count against Jay Bruce -- and being relieved by Neal Cotts. Jay Bruce and pinch-hitter Chris Heisey had consecutive sacrifice flies. NOTES: The Rangers are off Monday, their only off day this season that will come in the middle of a homestand. ... RALEIGH, N. Air Max 97 Undefeated .C. - Eric Fehr takes pride in doing some dirty work for the Washington Capitals. The payoff this time was the game-winning goal.Fehr scored with 4:02 remaining and the Capitals beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Thursday night.Jay Beagle scored an early goal and Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for the Capitals. Washington, which had lost two in a row, began a three-game road swing by moving back over .500 at 11-10-4.Its great for the confidence, Fehr said. It makes for a happy plane ride and thats the stuff that can really build into big streaks.Alexander Semin scored his first goal of the season for the Hurricanes. The Eastern Conferences second-worst team was trying to win two in a row for the first time since early November.Obviously, were in a little bit of a hole weve got to climb out of, captain Eric Staal said. Against divisional teams, you want to get the two points, especially at home. ... For the most part, we were ready to play.Fehr made the key play all by himself. He poked the puck away from Riley Nash just inside the blue line and scooped it up, charged between the circles and snapped a shot past Anton Khudobin.I definitely take a lot of pride in keeping pucks in the zone, knocking pucks away, Fehr said. This time it worked out and I was able to retrieve it and get a big goal.Khudobin finished with 26 saves for Carolina. The Capitals had lost four of their last five while allowing a combined 15 goals in those defeats. But they always seem to find a way to play tense games against Carolina — 19 of the last 32 meetings have been decided by one goal.Washington played a mostly tight defensive game in this one in front of Holtby, who took a bid for his second shutout of the season into the third.Brooks Orpik came up with two blocked shots in about 20 seconds, including a big one against Semin with about a minute left. They like to play a wide-open style, Holtby said. I think we minimized them a lot and held our ground as best we could to earn that close game.Semin had given the Hurricanes a jolt of momentum earlier in the final period when he tied it with his long-awaited first goal. The former Washington forward took a nifty pass from Jay Harrison and beat Holtby with a backhand for the 500th point of his career. Coach Bill Peters said Semins game began to make a positive turn last week in a win at Pittsburgh.Hes working hard with and without the puck, Peters said, and thats what you have to do.Beagle had put the Capitals up 1-0 after a Carolina misplay just 2:19 in. Khudobin stopped Jason Chimeras shot from close range but Beagle poked in the rebound. That was a good sign for Washington, which improved to 10-1-1 when scoring first.NOTES: The Hurricanes skated without G Cam Ward (lower body) and called up Drew MacIntyre from Charlotte of the AHL to back up Khudobin. ... Five-time champion Serena Williams, meanwhile, struggled to even hit the ball over the net in a doubles match with sister Venus and pulled out after only three games with what officials called a viral illness. Sharapova, a five-time major champion, saved one match point at 5-2 down in the third set and five more in the final game before hitting a backhand long on the seventh. That gave the ninth-seeded Kerber a stirring 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4 win on Centre Court in a match that lasted 2 hours, 37 minutes. "Its unbelievable," said the German, a semifinalist two years ago. "It was so tough (a) match. Every single set was so close. Marias a great player. I was just fighting, concentrating and focusing on myself. Im so happy to be in the quarters now." Kerber will next face 20-year-old Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard, the only woman to reach the semifinals this year at both the Australian Open and French Open. Bouchard beat Kerber in the fourth round at the French. Sharapova, who won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 17, was coming off her latest major championship at the French Open last month. "Its absolutely normal for people to have high expectations of me doing well in Grand Slam stages," Sharapova said. "I certainly do, as well. Today could have gone either way, and it didnt go my way." On a day when seven-time mens champion Roger Federer sailed into the quarterfinals, Serena was out of sorts from the moment the pre-match warmup began. She had trouble collecting tennis balls from the ball kids and missed completely on some practice strokes. The start of the second-round doubles against Kristina Barrois and Stefanie Voegele was put off for about 10 minutes while Serena sat in her chair and was examined by medical staff. In the third game, Serena hit four double-faults. She hit serves that bounced before reaching the net. Umpire Kader Nouni climbed down from his chair and walked over to speak to Serena. Thee sisters walked to the sideline holding hands, and the match was stopped. Air Max 97 Special Snakeskin. Serena wiped away tears as she left the court. The Wimbledon referees office and WTA said Serena had a viral illness. She left the grounds a few hours later in a tournament car with Venus. While Sharapova sought to dictate play with her big-swinging groundstrokes, Kerber played counter-attacking tennis and went for her shots when the opportunities came. The match featured high tension and intensity. Sharapovas shrieks grew louder and louder as the match wore on. Kerber went up 4-1 and saved two break points to lead 5-2 in the final set. She held a match point on Sharapovas serve, but the Russian hit a deep backhand that she couldnt handle. With Kerber serving for the match in the next game, Sharapova broke for 5-4. Then Kerber went up 0-40 on Sharapovas serve, but the Russian erased those three match points. Two more came and went. Sharapova twice earned game points but couldnt convert. Finally, on the sixth match point of the game, it ended with Sharapovas backhand error. Federer kept up his bid for a record eighth Wimbledon title by beating Tommy Robredo to reach the quarterfinals for the 12th time. Federer, who has not dropped a set in the tournament, overwhelmed the Spaniard 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 in just over 90 minutes. "All the things are happening that need to be happening to go deep in this tournament again," he said. Federers win set up an all-Swiss duel with Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, who beat Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7), 6-3 to make it to the quarterfinals for the first time. Eighth-seeded Milos Raonic became the first Canadian man to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Robert Powell in 1912, beating No. 10 Kei Nishikori of Japan 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) 6-3. The first woman into the semifinals was No. 23 Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, who beat Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, 6-3 6-1. French Open runner-up Simona Halep breezed into the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. Her next opponent will be 2013 finalist Sabine Lisicki of Germany, who overcame shoulder trouble to defeat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. ___ ' ' '

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars expect to be without suspended receiver Justin Blackmon all season, maybe even longer. General manager Dave Caldwell said Friday it would be "relatively surprising" to have Blackmon back on the field this fall. "Its not something that were counting on," Caldwell said at the teams annual predraft luncheon. "It would be something that would be relatively surprising. Havent gotten a whole lot of updates from the league where hes at or from Justin, to be honest with you." Blackmon is suspended indefinitely without pay for repeated violations of the leagues substance abuse policy. He was previously suspended the first four games of last year for violating the policy. He played four games before getting suspended again -- at least for a year. But the Jaguars arent counting on Blackmon to return after eight games in 2014. NFL rules prohibit the team from having any contact with Blackmon -- aside from texts -- during his suspension. "Without having contact, we just have to protect the team now," coach Gus Bradley said. "Weve got to do whats right for the organization so we have to continue to move forward and project that. Weve got to get some guys in here at that spot and thats why youve heard Dave talk about wide receiver is a need because of that. Now, if everything works out to get him back, thats OK. We always will love to get very talented players in here. But its hard. But we just have to keep going forward." With Blackmons future uncertain, thee Jaguars are considering selecting Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins with the third overall pick in next weeks draft. Bud Cooper Jersey Retro. . If they dont take Watkins in the first round, they expect to use at least one of their other 10 picks on a receiver. The wideout class is considered one of the deepest in the draft. Blackmon has been involved in three substance-related incidents in three years. He was arrested on a misdemeanour DUI charge in Texas in 2010 after officers caught him speeding on a suburban Dallas highway. The charge was later reduced to an underage alcohol possession charge. A little more than a month after the Jaguars drafted him, he was arrested during a traffic stop in Stillwater, Oklahoma, after a breath test allegedly showed his blood alcohol content to be three times the legal limit. A subsequent violation landed him the four-game suspension. Another one got him the indefinite suspension. Blackmon caught 29 passes for 415 yards and a touchdown in the four games he played last season. He was the teams leading receiver during that stretch. While Blackmon sat out the first four games, the Jaguars averaged 224 yards of total offence. In the four games he played, Jacksonville hiked its offensive output to just over 350 yards per game. He has 93 catches for 1,280 yards and six scores in 20 games -- all since Jacksonville traded up to select the former Oklahoma State star with the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft. Without him, the Jaguars relied on Cecil Shorts III, Ace Sanders and Mike Brown last season. ' ' '
CLEVELAND - The chemistry has been slow to develop. Tyson Chandler Jersey . The rookie coach is under fire. The record isnt nearly what its supposed to be.No, the Cleveland Cavaliers arent having the season everyone expected. Not even close. And now, superstar LeBron James will sit out for at least two weeks. The championship chase is now a crawl.James was diagnosed with strains to his left knee and lower back and will be sidelined until they heal. In the meantime, the Cavs need to get themselves patched up.The injuries to the four-time NBA MVP have threatened to capsize his homecoming season in Cleveland and further hinder the struggling Cavs, who have been jarred by a rash of medical issues and havent lived up to the enormous expectations triggered by James re-signing as a free agent last summer.James injuries added to a turbulent week in which there has been growing speculation about coach David Blatts future, James commitment to Cleveland was again questioned, forward Kevin Love was sidelined with back spasms and starting forward Anderson Varejao underwent season-ending surgery after tearing his Achilles. The Cavs (18-14) have lost three straight games and four of five heading into Fridays matchup in Charlotte. James, who missed the previous two games, didnt make the trip and its not clear when hell rejoin his teammates, some of whom are about to be reminded what the previous four years were like without him.But even when James has been at full strength — he said Wednesday that his knee has bothered him most of the season — the Cavs have not clicked at either end of the floor. Blatt has struggled trying to find the right rotations and the former international coaching legend is still adjusting to the NBA game.Cleveland has lacked defensive intensity, the bench has been inconsistent at best and the Cavs arent deep enough to handle any significant injuries.Compounding things for Blatt was a report that theres concern within the organization that he doesnt seem to be connecting with his players. Blatt, who was hired before James decided to come back to Ohio, believes he and the 10-time All-Star are on the same page and their relationship is growing. But until the losses turn to wins, the pressure will only increase the scrutiny on Blatt, whose external challenge was to get his team playing at a championship level right away. James had preached patience in the poignant essay he wrote in July, saying the team would need time to jell. However, the teams acquisition of Love in a blockbuster trade made the Cavs title favourites. They dont look like one.The Cavs were thin up front before Varejao went down, and general manager David Griffin has explored trades to bring in a rim-protecting big man and help for the bench. But Clevelands problems may run deeper than that, and James health has suddenly added an unexpected hurdle. The games most dynamic player, James, who turned 30 on Tuesday, hasnt been himself all season. He came into his 12th year lighter than ever after a substantial weight loss this summer. He looks different and so does his game as James has not shown the same explosiveness while driving to the basket and hes been willing to defer to teammates.Last week, James said he was playing in chill mode, a comment some construed as pacing himself for the grind ahead. He acknowledged his body has taken a beating.Ive got 41,000 minutes on me, including the playoffs, he joked. You drive that car in the winter time.James has never missed more than five straight games in his professional career. If the two-week timetable holds up, his absence could reach 10 games or more. By the time he gets back, the Cavs, who have a five-game West Coast trip coming up, could have a losing record. That would be unimaginable if not for their previous problems.Fortunately, the Cavs play in the Eastern Conference, where anything over 35 wins will likely earn a playoff spot. But this season promised to be more, so much more than that for Cleveland. This was supposed to be a run at long-sought championship, which currently seems far away. Jrue Holiday Jersey . The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is expected to start for the New York Jets (2-1) against the Eagles (1-2) in Thursday nights preseason finale. He probably wont see much action before giving way to Matt Simms. Jets starter Geno Smith and most of the No. 1s for both teams arent playing. Vick resurrected his career in Philadelphia after missing two seasons because of his imprisonment on dogfighting charges. He began his five-year stint with the Eagles as a third-string quarterback behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb in 2009 and finished as the backup to Nick Foles. In between, Vick had the best all-around season of his career in 2010 when he was The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year, the NFC Pro Bowl starter and led the Eagles to an NFC East title. "I had a great run there with a lot of great memories and accomplished some things that can never be taken away from me," Vick said. "Im ecstatic about that, thankful and very grateful." Vick should receive a loud ovation from Eagles fans. Though he arrived to protests and boos, he quickly won over the city with excellent performances on the field and model behaviour off it. Vick was active in the community and was a team leader, mentoring young players and serving as a liaison to the coaching staff. "The chemistry that I had with the organization was uncanny," he said. "The relationships that I developed with the people in the front office were awesome. All my teammates, I had a great deal of appreciation for and I think I could say thats vice versa. We had a great time. We won a lot of games. We lost some games. Through all the good and the bad, we always stayed tight and I think thats what was most important." Vick battled injuries in Philadelphia and eventually lostt his starting job last year to Foles, who had one of the best statistical seasons of any quarterback in league history. Cheap Pelicans Jerseys. When he left for New York, owner Jeffrey Lurie issued a statement praising him for his time in Philadelphia. Its not often an owner says anything when a free agent backup leaves town. But Vick was no ordinary player. Vicks appearance will be the highlight of a game that will feature mostly third-string players, guys fighting for roster spots and some hoping to save their NFL careers. Matt Barkley will start at quarterback for the Eagles while Foles and backup Mark Sanchez watch safely from the sideline. Sanchez, who led the Jets to AFC titles games his first two seasons in the league, had an outstanding preseason after trading places with Vick. "We need to see Matt play a lot," Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. "I think we feel comfortable in what Mark Sanchez has done in the first three games. We want to see Matt play for an extended period of time." Both coaching staffs face tough decisions before Saturdays roster deadline. The Eagles have strong competition at running back, wide receiver and linebacker. Theyre also unsettled at kicker. Incumbent Alex Henery is battling new acquisition Cody Parkey for that job. The Jets will be looking carefully at their cornerbacks following Dimitri Pattersons suspension. Patterson is expected to return Monday, but Dee Milliner is still recovering from a high ankle sprain. It could be a last chance for wide receiver Stephen Hill to stick with the Jets. Injuries and inconsistency have made him a second-round disappointment. "A lot of jobs still up and opportunities for guys to show what they got one last time," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. ___ AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ___ Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_RobMaaddi ' ' '

MONTREAL -- Jeb Brovsky holds no grudge against the Vancouver Whitecaps for leaving him unprotected in the 2012 Major League Soccer expansion draft. Lou Brock . The Lakewood, Col., native had just completed a promising rookie season with the Whitecaps when he was selected by the Montreal Impact, joining his second expansion franchise in as many years. "I understood that, protecting 10 guys, if youre a rookie you sometimes dont get protected," Brovsky said Friday. "Thats business. "Its really worked out for me because Im happy here. I had a fantastic time last year with (former coach) Jesse Marsch and this year has been fantastic as well." Brovsky still has friends on the Whitecaps, but that will be set aside when the teams meet Saturday afternoon at Saputo Stadium with Vancouver (10-10-8) looking to end a five-game winless run and Montreal (13-8-6) hoping to tighten its grip on a playoff spot. The Impacts first game when it made the jump to MLS was a 2-0 defeat in Vancouver on March 2, 2012. They met twice this year in Amway Canadian Championship play in May, drawing 0-0 in Montreal and 2-2 in Vancouver. The Impact won the series and claimed the Voyageurs Cup on the away goals rule. "That was maybe a turning point in their season because they havent got the results since we played them," said Brovsky. "And two ties in a final and you go through -- its tough to be on the losing end of that. "So they might have a bit of desperation coming in here." Its been a tough week for Montreal, which blew a lead and lost 2-1 at home to Columbus last Saturday and then flew to the West Coast to be beaten 3-0 by San Jose in the CONCACAF Champions League. The team flew home Wednesday and coach Marco Schallibaum gave the players a day off Thursday to have them fresh as possible for the Whitecaps. The Impact are second in the Eastern Conference, three points behind New York but with two games in hand. The Whitecaps, who squeaked into the playoffs last season with only 43 points, are seventh in the West, two points behind sixth-place Dallas and five behind Portland, which holds the fifth and final playoff position. Vancouver is 1-5-3 in its last nine games and has scored only seven goals in that span. Scoring leader Camilo Sanvezza has 14 goals on the season, but only one in his last seven games. The return of 20-year-old winger Russell Teibert from national team duty may help against Montreal, whose defence has been bleeding goals of late even if the attack is strong. Marco Di Vaio, the MLS leader with 18, has seven goals in his last five league games. Schallibaum does not disclose his lineup until he has to -- one hour before game time -- but Brovsky has appeared in all 27 games this season. The 24-year-old started out as a centre midfielder with Vancouver, but was switched to right back during the season. In Montreal, he has found a home at left back, while the teams other iron man, Hassoun Camara, plays on the right. After goalkeeper Troy Perkins, they have played the most minutes of any Impact players, with Brovsky at 2,340 and Camara at 2,334. "When you play as much as we play, you have to stay focused," said Camara. "Its hard to play every game, but when you commit to do this for the team, you do it. "Id like to play all the games until the end of the year because Im in a good way and I want to give my best." "Im ready to fight every day," added Brovsky. "You never know when your last games going to be so Id rather go out with a bunch of scars and see how long I can push myself." In his MLS career thus far, Brovsky has spent time in two different Canadian cities and two very different soccer cultures. In Montreal, the accent from the start has been on European style and players, with older, former Italian league stars Di Vaio, Alessandro Nesta and Matteo Ferrari leading the way. It appeared at the start of this season that American players would be squeezed out and some have, but Brovsky, Perkins and midfielder Justin Mapp have flourished. "There are similarities, but there are huge differences too," Brovsky said of the two clubs, who were rivals in other leagues for nearly two decades before they joined MLS. "(Owner) Joey Saputo and the front office here have a different view on the path they want to take and certainly its working. "We had a lot of questions at the beginning of the season about older players and the Italian strategy and whatnot, but we have put performances together and no one can doubt the numbers or that were playing well. "Vancouvers going the opposite way, with a lot of youth and building. But there are good players on both sides. Its funny what works and what doesnt in this league. You never know what is the winning formula, but I think we found something very special here." One of Brovskys pals on the Whitecaps is U.S. international defender Jay DeMerit, who returned last week from an Achilles heel injury suffered in the season opener. The two players and their families have a dinner planned for after the match. "Hopefully were celebrating an Impact victory and I can buy him a drink," Brovsky said. Yairo Munoz . NORRIS COLE (Heat): Its funny, you watch a guy play and now really produce and it just jumps off the page at you - why? You put a young player with potential in a winning environment where there is veteran leadership, outstanding coaching and management and a way that things are done and its a wonderful environment for growth, improvement in a climate of constant accountability and expectation of achievement/production. Brad Richards looked to be on his way out of New York in 2013, when former Rangers coach John Tortorella not only demoted the veteran centre but scratched him in the playoffs. Dana Stubblefield Jersey . A year later, coach Alain Vigneault started down the same path by putting the 34-year-old on left wing of the Rangers fourth line in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final. Richards played just nine minutes 22 seconds at even strength and a total of 13:20 including power-play time. Vigneault said he met with his lines individually, including Richards, Brian Boyle and Derek Dorsett. He wanted to spell out his reasoning and assignments. "I talked to Brads line. I talked to Brad about the decision I made," Vigneault said Wednesday night after the Rangers 2-1 victory that staved off elimination. "I mean, at this time of the year its only about one thing: Its about the team. You guys know how Richards has been this year, the ultimate pro. Hes fine with whatever I do." Richards, a strong candidate to be bought out of the final six years and US$27 million left on his contract, has no points in the Cup final and just four goals and four assists in 23 games since a strong opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. Vigneault said his line shuffling had to do with giving forward Dominic Moore a bigger role. As a result, though, he put Richards in a tough spot to be effective on a checking fourth line. Richards skated just 13 shifts. The 34-year-old managed a couple of quality scoring chances on the power play and was on the ice for a strong five-on-five shift that ended with a Kings penalty. Still, though, longtime friend Martin St. Louis knows what a demotion can mean to any star players ego. Richards was once a Canadian Olympian and 90-point scorer in the NHL. "Richies a pro and a tremendous leader," St. Louis said. "Im sure its tough for him. Hes a pro and a great teammate." Richards isnt expected to be a teammate of St. Louis for much longer. The Rangers have one more compliance buyout to use and just one more off-season window in which to use it, and these playoffs have done little to dispel the notion that hell be playing elsewhere next season. The United States squared off against Canada on Friday in a rematch of the 2010 gold medal game. And like those Vancouver Games, Canada got the better of the U.S. by handing the Americans a 1-0 setback. Jonathan Quick, who finishes the tournament today as the U.S. starting goaltender, was solid in net for the U.S. and posted 36 saves, but an offense that tied Finland for the most goals in the preliminary round (15) failed to get a shot by Canadian netminder Carey Price. Price ended with 31 saves to advance Canada into the gold medal game against Sweden. The only goal allowed by Quick came at 1:41 of the second period as Canadas Jay Bouwmeester unleashed a low, hard shot from the left point that was redirected into the net by Jamie Benn. The U.S., which has not won gold since the 1980 Games in Lake Placid, won silver in 2002 and four years ago in Vancouver after being held without a medal in 2006. LINCOLN, Neb. Colorado Avalanche Pro Shop . -- Ameer Abdullah says someday hell look back and revel in the kind of game he played against Rutgers. Not now, though, because he believes he has a lot more to accomplish this season. Abdullah nudged his way back into the Heisman Trophy conversation Saturday by running for 225 yards and three touchdowns and setting a school record with 341 all-purpose yards in the No. 16 Cornhuskers 42-24 victory. Every time I step on the field, whether practice or games, Im always creating memories here, Abdullah said. These are always things Im going to remember, coming here and playing football for this great university. Abdullah surpassed 200 yards rushing for a nation-leading fourth time this season and fifth time in his career. He broke Roy Helu Jr.s record of 321 all-purpose yards with his 23-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1) reached the halfway point of conference play tied with Minnesota for first in the West Division, but coach Bo Pelini was in no mood to celebrate. There were too many defensive breakdowns for his liking, particularly early and late, and too many penalties on offence. We got the win and Im happy about that. Thats all Im happy about, Pelini said. I didnt like the way we played. I thought we were sloppy, inconsistent and we didnt play up to the standard we need to. The Scarlet Knights (5-3, 1-3) lost quarterback Gary Nova on the second-to-last play of the first half. Nova held his right knee after Maliek Collins brought him down as he got rid of the ball. Chris Laviano played the rest of the game. Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said it would take a couple of days to determine the extent of Novas injury. Rutgers lost 56-17 at Ohio State a week ago and has been outscored 98-41 in its past two games. Were disappointed that were 0-2 if you look at it from a two-game perspective, Flood said. I think weve come out of it a better football team. I think just from the experience of it, going on the road and playing some of the best teams in the country, were going to be a better football team. Abdullah ran for 149 yards and two long touchdowns in the first half. He hit the right corner hard, put a move on safety Lorenzo Waters and continued on for a 53-yard TD. On the next series, Abdullah went left for 48 yards to put the Huskers in front 21-7. Abdullah broke a 49-yard run on the first play of the second half to start a series that ended with Tommy Armstrong Jr.s short TD pass to Sam Cotton. After Kyle Federicos 41-yard field goal for Rutgers, Abdullah ran back the kickoff 76 yards to set up a short scoring drive. Once he gets through the first level he does a good job of bursting, Rutgers defensive lineman David Milewski said. If youre able to slow him down before he gets to that, then you can do a good job of holding him up. If he finds a gap, he puts his foot in the ground and gets upfield faster than a lot of backs. Abdullah moved from fourth to second on the Big Tens career all-purpose yards list. His 6,604 yards are 825 behind the 7,429 by Wisconsins Ron Dayne. Abdullah, who came in as the nations third-leading rusher at 146.2 yards a game, averaged 11.8 yards on his 19 carries. He took a snap out of the wildcat formation and caught a couple passes for 26 yards. Kenny Bell made six catches for 63 yards and became Nebraskas career leader in receptions with 167. The Knights generated 160 yards in the first quarter, with 71 coming on Leone Carroos catch-and-run for a touchdown. Desmon Peoples and Robert Martin had short touchdown runs for the Knights after the Huskers had broken the game open. Rutgers, which lost its eighth straight game against a Top 25 opponent, played the first half without wide receivers Janarion Grant and Andre Patton, who were suspended for violating team rules.
